GET INSPIRED WITH MEB IN 2018

It’s easy to begin each new year with ambition to achieve greatness though personal wellness and fitness.  After all, January represents fresh opportunity to reset and push forward without the baggage of what came previously. Of course great plans can easily lead to disappointment when we don’t stick with it and make achieving personal goals a priority.  When it comes to this, there’s no better source for inspiration than Skechers Elite athlete Meb.  Throughout his esteemed career, he built his reputation as one of the greatest American marathoners of all time by never allowing the world to tell him he couldn’t excel.

Meb ran his final competitive marathon in November and if you need some uplifting motivation for sticking with your goals, be sure to check out this engaging five-part documentary about the lead up to his final race—MEB:  The Home Stretch.  The teaser below gives you a taste and head to Runner’s World to see the entire film.

Persistence is key to Meb’s training and you can work his champion-building strategies into your own routine.  Take a look here to learn Meb’s favorite 13 drills that he used to keep his body in world-class competitive shape at age 42.  And you can even ask the man himself for training and motivation tips when he appears Friday, January 12 from 12-2PM at the Skechers Performance booth during the Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Sports Medicine Institute EXPO leading up to this Sunday’s Chevron Houston Marathon.

This is the fifth year that Skechers Performance has been the Official Footwear and Apparel Sponsor of the big race and a limited-edition collection of race products will available at the EXPO and online at skechers.com.  The special ‘Houston 18’ designs for the new Skechers GO Run Forza 3™ and the Skechers GO Run 6™ can be seen below.

Racers and fans attending the EXPO will also have the opportunity to meet Skechers Elite Runner Kara Goucher on Saturday, January 13 from 2-4PM.  And those purchasing gear at the EXPO will have the option to round their purchase up to the nearest whole dollar, with the difference being donated to the Houston Marathon Foundation—an organization that promotes the advancement of running and provides after school running programs, coaching and guidance to over 2,000 youths in the Houston area. Funds raised during the 2018 register round up will help with rehabilitating community parks, trails and green spaces that were washed away by Hurricane Harvey and provide support to partner programs of the Houston Marathon Foundation that were impacted by the storm.

Additionally, through this partnership, Skechers Performance has donated 100 pairs of running shoes and technical running T-shirts to high school students in need throughout the Houston area. And beyond the marathon through its BOBS charity program, Skechers has to date also donated more than 10,000 pairs of shoes, 25,000 pairs of socks and 2,000 lunchboxes to area families impacted by the storm.

Whether you’re just starting on a new fitness adventure or preparing for the ultimate big race in Houston or elsewhere this year, we wish you great success on your journey.  Let us know where you find inspiration to reach your goals in the comments!

WINNING WEEKEND IN LA FOR SKECHERS PERFORMANCE ELITE MEB & WELDON

The Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon booth at the Health and Fitness Expo in Los Angeles.

It’s a great feeling to walk the streets of Los Angeles and watch the city prep for its biggest race weekend of the year: banners, stands and barricades stretching for miles, readying for tens of thousands to run, cheer and celebrate the greatest in the sport. And the weekend didn’t disappoint.

First off was the Rio Trials on Saturday, where our Skechers Performance elite athlete Meb continues to redefine the boundaries of greatness in his sport. Meb joined the Rio team with an incredible second place finish of 2:12:21 and set a new American Master’s marathon record in his custom Skechers GOmeb Speed 3 – 2016 shoes. Meb will be the oldest marathoner in US history to ever compete at the Games, and the only one to qualify four times. Skechers Performance elite athlete Kara Goucher also continued to rally a huge following with her incredible comeback, making the team as an alternate marathoner. Altogether, we had an incredible 27 elite Skechers Performance athletes competing in the Trials.

Weldon Kirui

And on Sunday, the first ever 2016 Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon launched – along with its own storybook ending. Avid Skechers Performance runner Weldon Kirui flew in from Kenya and incredibly, his airline lost his luggage – which for many of us, would have been our worst nightmare. As serendipity would have it, Skechers Performance happened to title sponsor the event – and promptly brought him a replacement pair of Skechers GOmeb Speed 3 – 2016 running shoes, in which he came in first, winning in 2:13:06.

We are thrilled and honored to partner with so many incredible runners and athletes who continue to choose greatness every day to reach new heights in their sport. We look on to Rio and beyond for many more incredible triumphs in store for our elite Skechers Performance team.

SKECHERS USA, Inc. recognizes elite runner and Athens silver medalist Meb for being ranked #1 in the 2012 Running Times U.S. Marathoners of the Year listing. The article notes that there was little doubt as to who should top the annual list since “Meb Keflezighi was dominant in winning the Olympic trials in Houston and then backed that up with an inspired fourth-place showing at the Olympics.”

“It always feels great to be recognized for my hard work,” began Meb. “This truly amazing year stretches back to my personal best time at the 2011 New York City Marathon. From another personal best on winning the Houston Trials just 69 days later to a strong race in London, I’m feeling better and stronger even at an older age. The midfoot strike technology in my Skechers GOrun shoes has clearly helped me run more efficiently. The proof is in the performance.”

Skechers GOrun is an award-winning innovative lightweight running line featuring revolutionary technology that promotes a midfoot strike and GOimpule sensors for a responsive experience. Meb provides the Skechers Performance Division with ongoing expert insight by testing and consulting on the design of shoes like the all-new Skechers GOrun 2, the pro-level Skechers GOrun Speed racing line, and other high-performance product currently in development.

SKECHERS congratulates Meb and we’re honored the Skechers Performance Division has been there for each of his incredible achievements this past year,” said SKECHERS president Michael Greenberg. “After all Meb has accomplished wearing Skechers GOrun, plus the media accolades for our shoes, we’ve established the Skechers Performance brand as a serious player in this market. Now as Meb continues to inspire more and more runners around the globe, there should be no doubt that training and racing in Skechers GOrun and our entire collection of innovative Skechers Performance footwear can lead to great success in competition.”

Meb returns to competition this spring where he’ll race in his Skechers GOrun footwear at the iconic Boston Marathon on April 15.

SKECHERS and Marathoner Meb Present $25,000 and Footwear for Hurricane Sandy Relief

SKECHERS USA, Inc. announced that elite marathon runner Meb presented a $25,000 check to the Mayors Fund in New York City on behalf of SKECHERS for rebuilding efforts after the destruction of Superstorm Sandy. Meb also appeared on Monday at a special fundraising event at the SKECHERS Times Square store where the footwear company donated 20% of all sales raising additional money for the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.

To aid families that have been displaced or lost their homes during the hurricane, SKECHERS worked with Fashion Delivers to get 500 pairs of footwear immediately into the hands of two relief efforts: the Secaucus Municipal Center in New Jersey and The Legacy Center in Queens. SKECHERS also will be donating a large number of pairs via its charity footwear line that will reach children impacted by the storm in December.

“I arrived last week in New York to run as I have so many times before. Then after witnessing the storm’s devastation and hearing stories from those affected, the priorities of this amazing city became crystal clear,” began Meb. “There’s always another race, but those who lost their homes or friends or family members need our assistance today. I’m fortunate to be here and I hope that together with SKECHERS we’ve been able to help some of those who need it most.”

“Many of our retail associates and retail partners were impacted by this storm,” added SKECHERS president Michael Greenberg. “So, we quickly mobilized to figure out how to best help and we’re glad Meb was able to collaborate on raising both money and awareness. We also want to thank the countless runners – both local and visiting for the marathon – who attended our fundraising event on Monday. It’s truly a fantastic and supportive community.”

In 2009, Meb made history as the first American to win the prestigious ING New York City Marathon since Alberto Salazar in 1982. He also won a Silver Medal competing in the marathon during the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. And at age 36, Meb achieved back-to-back PRs in the 2011 New York City Marathon (2:09:13) and the 2012 Olympic Trials in Houston (2:09:08) wearing Skechers Performance footwear. Meb currently appears in the global marketing campaign for Skechers GOrun ride.
