INSPIRED CHANGE: CELEBRATING MLK JR

Today, we honor MLK and the way others have made a difference – including our brand ambassadors, who are all making strides to have a positive impact in so many ways. The list of charities they support is countless, but here are some highlights:

Demi Lovato, an active role model for many causes, has often shared her personal experiences with mental health and been one of its most vocal supporters. In honor of her father, she established The Lovato Scholarship with CAST Recovery devoted to funding transitional living, outpatient programs and additional expenses for individuals who struggle with mental health and addiction issues.

Meghan Trainor has lent her voice to causes ranging from the Charlotte & Gwenyth Gray Foundation’s Entertainment Industry Benefit for two young sisters fighting to survive Batten’s Disease, to her “Take Care of Our Soldiers” charity single which supported American troops abroad.

A global icon for good and giving, Ringo Starr and his wife Barbara Bach established the Lotus Foundation to advance social welfare in everything from substance abuse to cerebral palsy, cancer, battered women and children, homelessness and animals in need.

Brooke Burke-Charvet has been a longtime Operation Smile ambassador – partnering with companies and celebrities to transform children’s smiles, and even taking her kids to a medical mission in Mexico to support children who suffer from cleft lips and palates. She recently appeared at the UNICEF Snowflake Ball and has been one of the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk’s biggest supporters.

Kelly Brook’s contributions have ranged from supporting BGC Charity Day in honor of 9/11 victims, to joining the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk in support of children with special needs and education.

The International Chairman of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Walk for a Cure for many years, Sugar Ray Leonard founded the Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation with his wife Bernadette to support the organization. In 2009, Sugar Ray’s foundation expanded to help people rebuild their communities and provide accessible housing, healthcare services, educational services and job training.

Meb Keflezighi’s MEB Foundation inspires youth in the areas of health, education and fitness – supporting programs and events that empower them to maintain life balance, engage in healthy lifestyles, pursue academics, and learn positive skills through sports.

Belén Mozo has appeared at events in support of organizations like Our House grief support organization, and used her golf talents to win the Mad Anthony Charity Classic for Children, which helps support the Mad Anthonys Children’s Hope House for families of critically ill children.

Colin Montgomerie started The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation in memory of his mother, who died of lung cancer. The foundation’s funds built Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, which help thousands of patients and their families in Scotland.

Like our ambassadors, we’ve been inspired to make a difference in the world – both as a company and in partnership with organizations, celebrities and the millions who wear our brand. Through purchases of our BOBS from Skechers footwear, you can help save the lives of dogs and cats, and it enabled us to provide new shoes to more than 13 million kids in need in the United States and around the world. Our annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk has raised millions of dollars to support children with special needs and education, with the support of celebrities like Brooke, Kelly and others including Jimmy Kimmel, Sugar Ray Leonard and Tommy Lasorda. And we continue to seek out new ways to help improve the world.

DESIGNER INSIGHT: INSPIRED IN CHINA

IMG_3911

As Fall 2014 arrived, and consumers started to stock up on cozy things, Skechers’ designers were already hard at work on Fall/Winter product lines for 2015. In fact, August was the start of our Fall/Winter development season. When development kicks into high gear, we’re dispatched all over the world to find the latest obsessions and market trends.

In September, I traveled with the BOBS team to Hong Kong, Beijing and several other cities in China to get inspired. We looked for new styles, details, materials and ornaments in stores, on the streets, and on local residents. Some of the most interesting ideas were found in the most inconspicuous places, such as stores in Hong Kong that were as big as the size of a typical closet in the US. With the BOBS customer in mind, we filtered through all the findings and applied our newfound inspiration to the next generation of footwear. Expect to see lots of SPARKLES next season!

One caveat,  it was 90+ degrees out in the southern part of China when we visited in September. Can you imagine being in sweaters and furs while its that hot and humid? Trust me, it’s not easy. That’s why we had to get a little silly and let our imaginations go extra wild in order to think up new products for next year!

I can’t wait for you to see the results of our trip in 2015!

SKECHERS’ Donation of BOBS Footwear for Kids in Need Surpasses Three-Million-Pair Mark

Just five months after reaching its first million-pair donation milestone, BOBS from SKECHERS today announced that it has donated more than three million pairs of new shoes for children in need worldwide. With a new pair going to a child in need for every pair of BOBS purchased, BOBS has expanded its donation network to include nearly 30 countries around the globe, with a focus on helping distressed families across the United States.

“The word is out about BOBS, and its growing success means that we can give more pairs than ever. We are pleased that we are able to get shoes in the hands of American families struck by financial hardship, those affected by natural disasters, including Superstorm Sandy, and many children in need around the world,” said Michael Greenberg, president of SKECHERS. “We’re so excited to be part of this movement of giving, and to help as many kids as we can. Through the continued support of socially conscious consumers, we believe we can make an even larger impact.”

BOBS unites people with a single goal: to help the approximately 300 million children worldwide in need of shoes due to poverty, epidemics and natural disasters. With the support of its non-profit giveaway partners, BOBS distributes to charitable organizations, homeless shelters, education programs and non-profit groups across the Americas, Africa, Eastern Europe, and mainland and Southeast Asia – and plans to continue expanding the program on a global scale.

Designed for women, men and kids, BOBS is supported by Dancing with the Stars host Brooke Burke-Charvet in a global awareness campaign across print, television, online and social media. You can find BOBS in stores nationwide, and in key markets around the world.
