Today, we honor MLK and the way others have made a difference – including our brand ambassadors, who are all making strides to have a positive impact in so many ways. The list of charities they support is countless, but here are some highlights:
Demi Lovato, an active role model for many causes, has often shared her personal experiences with mental health and been one of its most vocal supporters. In honor of her father, she established The Lovato Scholarship with CAST Recovery devoted to funding transitional living, outpatient programs and additional expenses for individuals who struggle with mental health and addiction issues.
Meghan Trainor has lent her voice to causes ranging from the Charlotte & Gwenyth Gray Foundation’s Entertainment Industry Benefit for two young sisters fighting to survive Batten’s Disease, to her “Take Care of Our Soldiers” charity single which supported American troops abroad.
A global icon for good and giving, Ringo Starr and his wife Barbara Bach established the Lotus Foundation to advance social welfare in everything from substance abuse to cerebral palsy, cancer, battered women and children, homelessness and animals in need.
Brooke Burke-Charvet has been a longtime Operation Smile ambassador – partnering with companies and celebrities to transform children’s smiles, and even taking her kids to a medical mission in Mexico to support children who suffer from cleft lips and palates. She recently appeared at the UNICEF Snowflake Ball and has been one of the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk’s biggest supporters.
Kelly Brook’s contributions have ranged from supporting BGC Charity Day in honor of 9/11 victims, to joining the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk in support of children with special needs and education.
The International Chairman of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Walk for a Cure for many years, Sugar Ray Leonard founded the Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation with his wife Bernadette to support the organization. In 2009, Sugar Ray’s foundation expanded to help people rebuild their communities and provide accessible housing, healthcare services, educational services and job training.
Meb Keflezighi’s MEB Foundation inspires youth in the areas of health, education and fitness – supporting programs and events that empower them to maintain life balance, engage in healthy lifestyles, pursue academics, and learn positive skills through sports.
Belén Mozo has appeared at events in support of organizations like Our House grief support organization, and used her golf talents to win the Mad Anthony Charity Classic for Children, which helps support the Mad Anthonys Children’s Hope House for families of critically ill children.
Colin Montgomerie started The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation in memory of his mother, who died of lung cancer. The foundation’s funds built Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, which help thousands of patients and their families in Scotland.
Like our ambassadors, we’ve been inspired to make a difference in the world – both as a company and in partnership with organizations, celebrities and the millions who wear our brand. Through purchases of our BOBS from Skechers footwear, you can help save the lives of dogs and cats, and it enabled us to provide new shoes to more than 13 million kids in need in the United States and around the world. Our annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk has raised millions of dollars to support children with special needs and education, with the support of celebrities like Brooke, Kelly and others including Jimmy Kimmel, Sugar Ray Leonard and Tommy Lasorda. And we continue to seek out new ways to help improve the world.
How are you making a mark? Tell us what causes inspire you personally, and how you’d like to make a difference for future generations.
