BLOG TAKEOVER: STICK TO YOUR NEW YEAR’S GOALS IN FIVE STEPS

When it comes to taking life goals seriously, no one inspires our office better than Stress Monkee guru (and Team Skechers expert) Alicia Murphy! Here are her tips on how to continue your New Year’s Resolutions all year round.

Here we are, good ol’ January.  That time of year where many of us declare our unwavering commitment to making changes.

Yet, somehow when February rolls around (or maybe even sooner) we end up going right back to our old ways.

According to research (University of Scranton) only 8% of us achieve our Resolutions.  What gives?!

The problem isn’t a lack of information.  Nowadays, you can Google your way to being an expert in anything.

“If information were the answer, we’d all be billionaires with perfect abs.” – Derek Sivers (On point, Mr. Sivers!)

But listen, if you’re starting to slip on your New Year’s Goals, don’t sweat it. Tomorrow is a chance to start again.

Aaaaand, I have a little something to help you out.

5 Steps to be one of the 8% who nails the New Year’s Goals:

STEP #1 – Go Slow to Go Fast

If you’re scratching your head wondering what in the world I’m talking about, check this out.

One of the biggest reasons we don’t reach our goals is because we take on too many changes at once.

We create a massive “to do” list of changes to reach our goals.

We try to make changes in all different areas.  Our weight.  Our health.  Our finances.  Our job.  Our relationships.

Phew!  I don’t know about you, but my life can get hectic.  Trying to keep up with all those changes in different areas can only last for so long.

Try this:

Focus on only one area of your life that you’d like to change at a time.

My favorite way to do this is have a “theme” each month.  Maybe January is weight loss month.  Then February is relationship month.  Then March is health month… and so on.

I know it seems like it’ll take longer, but doing it this way means the changes will stick.  You can totally reinvent yourself by this time next year!

Alicia works out in Skech-Air Cloud.

STEP #2 – Make It So Simple, You Can’t Say No

Okay, now that you’ve picked one area of your life, how do you make change happen?

You pick one thing that takes a small amount of effort, but will give you the most results.

By doing this, you’ll be taking some of the “pain” out of change.  Trust me on this one.

If you start small, you’ll build up momentum and you’ll start to see dramatic results.

Try this:

Think about the change you want to make happen, and then ask yourself, what is the ONE thing you can do that will get you results?  Remember, it’s got to be something that you know you can stick to.

Example: I want to drop 10 pounds.  What are some things I could do (that I know I could stick to) that will get me results?

Brainstorm time!  Write your ideas.

Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

– Eat veggies twice a day

– Drink 100 ounces of water every day

– Go to the gym 3 days per week (if this is your jam, check out this video for a quick workout)

– No sugar for 30 days

– No alcohol for 30 days

Make sure you pick only one thing. Master it and then move on to the next thing. Bam!

STEP #3 – Consistency is King

I seriously cannot emphasize this step enough.

The secret to success is found in your daily routine.

This is the biggest mistake I see people make when it comes to getting in shape.  They quit.

The ONE thing you chose in Step #2… stay consistent with it, and you will reach your goal.  It’s as simple as that.

We’re trying to create new habits here.  To do that, you must do something over and over again until it becomes natural.  And it will become natural if you stay consistent.

Try this:

Give yourself a time frame for your ONE thing from Step #2.

I recommend at least three weeks, but I like the idea of doing something for a whole month even better.

Example: “I will drink 100 ounces of water every day for 30 days.”

At the end of 30 days, if it still doesn’t feel natural, recommit and go again.

Alicia stretches in Skechers Burst 2.0 – New Avenues.

STEP #4 – Change Your Story

“…the body always follows the mind.” – Bruce Lee

How do you talk to yourself?

What “identity” have you labeled yourself with?

If you say things like, “Ugh, I’m so fat – I need to go to the gym,” then guess what… your body will believe it.

In other words, whatever you continually label yourself as, your body will work to make it true.

I’m stressed.  I’m tired.  I feel yucky.  I’m fat.

Stop the madness!!

Try this:

Who do you want to be?

Write it out.  Describe the person you want to be.  Then act “as if.”

Start to act as if you are already that person.

Taking our example from Step #3.

I am a healthy + fit person who drinks 100 ounces of water a day because it makes me feel amazing and I love it.

STEP #5 – Find Your Tribe

We are social creatures.  We long for connection (whether we know it or not).

You want to reach your goals?  Don’t go it alone.

Find others to go through the journey with you.  This is a crucial step; don’t be tempted to skip it.

Accountability and support are ridiculously important my friend, when it comes to change.

Try this:

Here are a few suggestions to “find your tribe.”

– Grab a friend who wants to make the same change you do. Hold each other accountable.

– Join a Facebook group.

– Tell a close friend or significant other your goal, and ask him or her to support you by holding you accountable.

– Declare your goal on social media. (This one doesn’t work for everyone, but it could be positive peer pressure!)

There you go… five steps to reaching your New Year’s goals.

Remember, each day is Day One.  If you slip up, just start again.

Let me leave you with this – you can do anything.  I promise.

Yes, change is hard, but if you can master the process, then you’ll be unstoppable!

On behalf of myself + Team Skechers,

We believe in you!

We’d love to hear from you in the comments below: what is the ONE change that you are going to focus on?

BLOG TAKEOVER: MEN’S STREET STYLE IN SKECHERS

It’s 2017! A new year and an entirely new chance to find a solid resolution – why not make yours to be more stylish? Switch up your look by finding new ways to wear your favorite pair of Skechers with Samuel Anthony of The Frenchy Toast.

3bAs editor of The Frenchy Toast, my goal is to keep men’s fashion simple. I strive to provide men with tools to help them integrate the latest trends into their daily lives. I am thrilled to partner with Skechers to share tips on achieving the perfect street style look.

4aMy business partner, Erik Velasquez (AKA @CasualFridaze51) and I  partnered with photographer Natalie Miller to shoot these looks in downtown Phoenix. Although Erik and I shoot each other every week, it was exciting for us to both be in front of the camera. It sounds crazy, but it was actually our first time shooting together!

I’m pleased to report that it was a huge success! We dissected and analyzed the current street style trends and simplified them into the following four tips:

TIP #1: Get more use out of your athletic shoes (get Samuel’s Flex Advantage 2.0 – Missing Link style here) or casual sneakers (get Erik’s Crossroads shoe here) by dressing them up with a lightweight sweater or collared shirt.

TIP #2: Switch up your next casual look by mixing your favorite pair of Skechers sneakers (get Erik’s Bunker soles here || Samuel’s boots at select Skechers stores) with a heavy knit cardigan.

TIP #3: Pair Skechers work boots (get Samuel’s Skechers Work Relaxed Fit: Pettus – Grafford St boots here || Erik’s Bruiser boots here) with dark denim and a flannel for one of our favorite go-to outfits.

TIP #4: For the quintessential street style look, grab tailored joggers and pair them with the all-new Bunker sneakers from Skechers (get them here) along with a fitted bomber jacket.

Remember to have fun! Wear your clothes, don’t let them wear you!!

BLOG TAKEOVER: LORNA WEIGHTMAN STYLES SKECHERS

I work on my feet all day long, from shoots to filming TV and running around Dublin and most of Ireland to do my job. With this in mind I have to look after my feet, and I have been a long standing fan of Skechers. Aside from the support each pair gives, I feel I never have to compromise on style with either sneakers or shoes, and some of my most loved blog posts have been wearing some form of Skechers footwear! My followers on instagram love my shoe posts and in particular how I style my Skechers in each of my pictures. Me and my Skechers have been everywhere together in 2016!

Most recently, I traveled to Africa on a charity trip where I was out filming on mountains, remote villages and even Kilimanjaro! For those few important days I wore Skechers lightweight sneakers to keep my feet cool and comfortable. I cannot tell you how much I love Skechers Memory Foam! Every time I put on my trainers, my feet soak up the sponginess that encases them! I swear my feet have never been so happy! I love black trainers as I wear them with skirts and tights as much as I do with my favourite skinny jeans. My favourite pair right now have a snake skin print on the soles which gives a nod to the trend of the season!

I wear these to work but also to the gym! I love strength and conditioning training and when I am lifting weights I need to have my feet level on the ground. I find Skechers gives me the centre of gravity I need to support my feet and legs when I train. You have to protect your body when working out, so I started wearing  Skechers GOrun or Skechers GOtrail depending on the terrain for this great support they give me. Runs have never felt this great!

I’ve recently converted my Mum to wearing Skechers too for when she walks, and I am glad to report that she’s a fan too. We even have some of the same pairs! For anyone who wants to have a balance of supportive footwear for walking, training or just your regular day, there’s a Skechers shoe for you.

BLOG TAKEOVER: THREE WAYS TO LOOK CUTE IN WINTER BOOTS

Great boots are even better with a great stylist! We asked Michelle’s Paige how to dress up our most popular Skechers boots of the season… read on for three new ways to dress up your look.

I don’t know about you all, but when the temperatures start to really drop, so does my patience for putting together cute looks. All I really want to do is stay cuddled in my PJs and binge watch Netflix all day… but that’s not realistic for a gal on the go. In my mind, a good outfit starts with a good pair of shoes, so I’m thrilled to be teaming up with Skechers to round up a few easy ways to look cute this winter without sacrificing your style.

COZY UP

First up, I’m wearing these snuggly Skechers Keepsakes – Peekaboo booties that are so cozy and warm, I feel like I am walking around all day in my slippers! I definitely wanted to showcase peeks of the faux fur interior and the tweed fabric, so I paired these booties with cozy socks and basic black leggings. I completed this look with an oversized poncho sweater which added to the comfy nature of this overall outfit, making it perfect for cozy weekends. These booties are available at select Skechers stores.

WINTER WONDERFUL

Next up, I’m wearing an all-weather winter look thanks to the Skechers Highlanders – Portland boot. (You can’t tell in these photos, but the ground was still wet after a rain storm, so I was sinking into the mud!) So you can trust me when I say having these boots are perfect for trudging through fall/winter snow, slush and overall gross, muddy weather! I love that unlike most classic rain boots or duck boots, these have Thinsulate™ insulation for added warmth and comfort. Plus, the tan and navy color of these boots perfectly fits into my cold weather uniform of skinny jeans and neutral sweaters.

GO GLAM

Last but certainly not least, I’m showing you all how I dress up a pair of winter booties. That’s right – it’s possible to wear a pair of winter boots in a glam way! Usually when I head out to a holiday party, I wear my winter boots and then bring an alternate pair of shoes to slip on once I arrive at the party. With winter booties this cute, there is no need to change! They even have a hidden mini wedge! I decided to go for a monochrome black and gray look while wearing the Skch Plus 3 – Trois booties (at select Skechers stores). The darker shades keep the look sleek and make it look even dressier. I added polka dot tights and a red lip for some fun accessories and to help break up the dark shades in this look.

Which outfit was your favorite? How do you style your winter Skechers styles?

BLOG TAKEOVER: STRESS MONKEE ON AVOIDING HOLIDAY WEIGHT GAIN

p1070236

Ah, the Holiday Season is in full swing.  This is my favorite time of year. The lights. The fun gatherings. Time with friends + family. Watching holiday movies. Delicious treats. The massive amounts of calories that add up to that obnoxious holiday weight gain.

Yeah, that last bit is the part of the holidays I’d like to skip right over. Just a wild guess, you’d like to avoid that part too?

If my guess is correct, then you are in the right place my friend. I have some sensational news for you! There is a way to make it through the holiday season without gaining weight. Without feeling like a sludge-meister. Without spending so much time in the gym it becomes your second job.

Here’s the best part—it’s simple + it works.

Today I’m sharing with you the three C’s to avoiding the dreaded holiday weight gain. These are the same tips that Team Skechers will be focusing on through the Holiday Season at Skechers HQ.

p1070256

#1 – COMMIT

You want to be super-fit? Feel incredible? Be ridiculously healthy? Then you must embrace one simple truth. The key to your success lies in your mindset + beliefs. So, this is where we start.

Commit to your vitality. Commit to treating your body well. Commit to the right choices over what’s easy. Commit to eating to fuel your body. (Well, most of the time, we all need to indulge occasionally.) Commit to being a Health Superstar.

Commit. Recommit. And then commit again. Every dang day. We tend to be our own worst enemy. Do not “negotiate” with yourself.

p1070267

#2 – CONSISTENCY

Overdid it at the Thanksgiving table? Had an extra serving (or two or three) of your Aunt Debbie’s famous pumpkin pie? Skipped a workout or two? Come in closer so I can tell you something… It’s okay.

Being fit + healthy isn’t created in one day or at one meal. It’s about the long haul. Let’s stop with the guilt and beating ourselves up. Instead, stay consistent and get back to it!

Do not add to the stress of the holidays by setting unrealistic expectations on yourself. Even doing a five-minute workout can jack up your metabolism and keep you on track.

Not sure what kind of workout to do? You’re in luck! Here’s a super quick metabolic-blast workout video for you to try:

Let me wrap up this “C” by adding that the people that get results are the ones who stay consistent. You can count on that.

#3 – CARBS

This tip is one of my best secrets for getting my clients amazing results when it comes to shedding weight.

You must EARN your starchy/sugary carbs.

If you’re scratching your head right now and feeling lost, let me break it down for you.  I like to split carbs into two main categories.

  • Fibrous carbs = plant-based foods
  • Starchy / sugary carbs = foods made with flour (cookies, cereals, bread, pasta), rice, potatoes, or sugars (from fruits, sweetened beverages, desserts)

You want to lean out + transform your body?  Give this a try:

Only eat starchy / sugary carbs within two hours after working out. Again, this strategy is for someone who is looking to shed excess weight.

Before you sit down to that ginormous holiday meal. Before you go to a party with tempting treats. Before you go out for drinks with friends. Have a sweat sesh beforehand so your body can use the carbs you eat, rather than store them as fat.

Try that quick workout video embedded above the next time you need to “earn” some carbs.

p1070252

There you have it!  Give these 3 C’s a try and make this holiday season fabulous.

Focus on the magic of the season. Spend time over the holidays connecting with others. Be intentional about which holiday treats you will indulge in. Have fun + laugh a lot—it looks amazing on you.

On behalf of myself and everyone at Skechers,

Happy Holidays Team!

I’d love to hear from you in the comments!  Post and let me know how you keep yourself on track during the Holiday Season.

BLOG TAKEOVER: COLDWEATHER STYLE FOR MEN

skechers_workout1_featured

With crunchy leaves on the ground and cooling weather spreading across the country, it’s not hard to notice that we’re deep into the Autumn season. The Windy City can experience extremes of every season so we asked Chicago-based lifestyle writer Kyle Hocking to share a few looks perfect for this time of year.

LOOK ONE: Autumn Beach Walks

Hands down my favorite part of fall are the boots. You can never have too much. Black and brown is one of my favorite color combos and these brown leather Mark Nason Barnsley boots pair perfectly with these black fitted chinos. The only struggle I ever have with boots is getting them off. Even more so after a long commute home in the city on a freezing night. These boots have a side zipper, ideal for easy take-off. Plus – they go with everything.

LOOK TWO: Saturday Morning Workouts

There is nothing I like more than a simple workout shoe or sneaker. Something that goes with everything. Every color, pattern and style. The Skechers Burst – Second Wind sneaker does just that. No matter what outfit I have on – they can always be the go to shoe for early morning walks, jogs and gym routines in the crisp autumn air. They also may be the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn.

BLOG TAKEOVER: FALL STYLE WITH ALLIE’S FASHION ALLEY

Now that you’re shopping for Skechers boots to wear this fall, what’s the best way to style all these great new looks? We asked Allie’s Fashion Alley to share some cute pics and tips!

Fall is my favorite season, partially because I get to go back to wearing comfy boots. Boots are so versatile and there’s no need to worry about the state of my pedicure. I’m so glad that Skechers generously hooked me up with some new kicks for this boot season. Read on to see how I styled two versatile pairs.

LOOK ONE: Slip Dress + Skechers

Layering a slip dress over a t-shirt is a major trend this season. This is a dressed up/dressed down look that can be worn for day or night. Skechers’ Amarillo booties in Chocolate Brown give this look a western touch. They’re made of real suede and have a super cushioned insole. Plus, the height of the heel is perfect to wear all day. It’s so hard to find boots that are both stylish and comfortable, but Skechers has nailed it with their premium fall boot collection.

LOOK TWO: Olive Suede

I love mixing cozy and luxe textures for fall. Suede is definitely my favorite. This look is all about the details with a lace-up tank sweater and pleated suede skirt. The Agenda boot in Olive (at select Skechers retail stores) is the perfect sleek shoe to complete this look. Olive is one the top colors for fall, so I’ve stocked up. It’s a neutral that’s versatile, but more fun than black. I think the brown leather wrap around straps on these boots really make them special.

Allie is the founder of Allie’s Fashion Alley. She’s a business student and social media strategist in Chicago. Keep up with her latest looks on Instagram.
