The Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon booth at the Health and Fitness Expo in Los Angeles.
It’s a great feeling to walk the streets of Los Angeles and watch the city prep for its biggest race weekend of the year: banners, stands and barricades stretching for miles, readying for tens of thousands to run, cheer and celebrate the greatest in the sport. And the weekend didn’t disappoint.
First off was the Rio Trials on Saturday, where our Skechers Performance elite athlete Meb continues to redefine the boundaries of greatness in his sport. Meb joined the Rio team with an incredible second place finish of 2:12:21 and set a new American Master’s marathon record in his custom Skechers GOmeb Speed 3 – 2016 shoes. Meb will be the oldest marathoner in US history to ever compete at the Games, and the only one to qualify four times. Skechers Performance elite athlete Kara Goucher also continued to rally a huge following with her incredible comeback, making the team as an alternate marathoner. Altogether, we had an incredible 27 elite Skechers Performance athletes competing in the Trials.
Weldon Kirui wins in Skechers GOmeb Speed 3 – 2016
And on Sunday, the first ever 2016 Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon launched – along with its own storybook ending. Avid Skechers Performance runner Weldon Kirui flew in from Kenya and incredibly, his airline lost his luggage – which for many of us, would have been our worst nightmare. As serendipity would have it, Skechers Performance happened to title sponsor the event – and promptly brought him a replacement pair of Skechers GOmeb Speed 3 – 2016 running shoes, in which he came in first, winning in 2:13:06.
We are thrilled and honored to partner with so many incredible runners and athletes who continue to choose greatness every day to reach new heights in their sport. We look on to Rio and beyond for many more incredible triumphs in store for our elite Skechers Performance team.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – and every year, we look forward to releasing new product designed to honor the fight against breast cancer. This year, we’ve released a limited edition series of Skechers GOrun and Skechers GOwalk shoes along with apparel from our Skechers Performance offering.
We’re very proud to be part of this fight – to support the crucial work of the American Cancer Society, and be part of the journey that will make this tragic disease a thing of the past.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Skechers is joining the American Cancer Society in the fight to end breast cancer. The extensive work of the Society for people with breast cancer today is helping to find an end for the disease tomorrow. Support from Skechers will help the American Cancer Society continue to invest in ground breaking research, provide comprehensive support to people diagnosed with breast cancer, and advocate for laws that ensure access for women who need them so more lives are saved. Skechers is also a sponsor of the Making Strides Walk event in San Francisco on October 25.
There will be several ways to show your support for the cause with Skechers throughout October. A program in Skechers retail stores this month will allow you to round up purchases to the nearest dollar with the change going straight to the American Cancer Society. And at the forefront of our efforts is the limited edition Breast Cancer Awareness footwear and apparel collection from the Skechers Performance Division. Designed with signature pink colors, the collection includes workout athletic wear and four popular and comfortable walking and running styles: the slip-on Skechers GOwalk 2, the lace-up Skechers GOwalk 2 Flash, Skechers GOrun Sprint, and the award-winning Skechers GOrun 3. These styles will only be available for a short time so pick up a pair and wear them in honor of someone you know fighting this disease.

We’re thrilled to announce that seven-time PGA Tour champion Matt Kuchar—currently ranked 5th in the world—will be the first brand ambassador and face of the Skechers GOgolf line. The multi-year partnership will feature Kuchar in a global Skechers GOgolf advertising campaign and the development of a namesake signature shoe line for the Skechers Performance Division.
Matt has been wearing Skechers GOgolf at PGA Tour events and had this to say about his footwear:
“Whether competing or practicing, I’m on my feet for hours, so the comfort and performance of my shoes is a critical factor in my success. In trying out the GOgolf line, I was really pleased both with the shoe and with the Skechers Performance Division team. Their attention to detail and expertise in performance footwear is impressive.”
As one of the most respected golfers in the sport, Kuchar’s accomplishments are noteworthy. After bursting on to the golf scene with his trademark smile at the 1998 Masters as the reigning U.S. Amateur champion, he has claimed seven titles on the PGA Tour and is a perennial fixture atop tournament leaderboards. His 2013 season was a banner year, as he earned two PGA Tour titles and helped the U.S. squad win the Presidents Cup.

We’re excited to announce that the Skechers Performance Division has signed long-distance runner Kara Goucher to join the Skechers Performance Elite Team. The Skechers Performance Division will be Goucher’s official footwear sponsor and you’ll be seeing a lot of the world-class athlete in upcoming Skechers Performance advertising and marketing around the globe. A competitive runner for over 20 years, Goucher grew up in Duluth, Minnesota and attended the University of Colorado in Boulder. After taking a brief break from competing to have a child, Goucher returned to competition in January 2011 and is currently training in Boulder, Colorado with her coaches Mark Wetmore and Heather Burroughs. Her achievements as an elite long-distance runner include winning the bronze medal at the 2007 World Championships in the 10,000 meter, competing for Team USA at the London 2012 and Beijing 2008 games, placing first in the 2012 USA Half Marathon Championships and placing third in the 2012 Olympic marathon trials in Houston, Texas. Goucher is known for her passion and desire to win and we can’t wait to see what’s next when she begins racing in Skechers Performance footwear!
Congratulations to Skechers Performance elite athlete Meb for his victory at the 2014 Boston Marathon! Wearing the new Skechers GOmeb Speed 3 shoes, Meb ran a career best with a new personal record of 2:08:37. He was the first American male to win the Boston Marathon since 1983 and the first American overall since 1985.
After the race, Meb reflected on his historic accomplishment at the Boston Strong event:
“A year ago I decided I wanted to win the 2014 Boston Marathon for the people of Boston and for the U.S. When the Red Sox put the World Series trophy at the Boston Marathon finish line during the victory parade last year, I was inspired more than ever to come back and win. With the support of the Skechers Performance Division by my side every step of the way, this victory today belongs to the city and my country.”
Michael Greenberg and Meb at the Houston Marathon
Meb first signed with the Skechers Performance Division in 2011 to help launch Skechers GOrun footwear. Since that time, he has won more than five key races wearing Skechers Performance footwear, including the 2012 U.S. Trials and the U.S. Half Marathon Championship in Houston this past January.
You can wear Meb’s race shoes when Skechers GOrun Speed 3 footwear hits stores this Fall.
SKECHERS USA, Inc. recognizes elite runner and Athens silver medalist Meb for being ranked #1 in the 2012 Running Times U.S. Marathoners of the Year listing. The article notes that there was little doubt as to who should top the annual list since “Meb Keflezighi was dominant in winning the Olympic trials in Houston and then backed that up with an inspired fourth-place showing at the Olympics.”

“It always feels great to be recognized for my hard work,” began Meb. “This truly amazing year stretches back to my personal best time at the 2011 New York City Marathon. From another personal best on winning the Houston Trials just 69 days later to a strong race in London, I’m feeling better and stronger even at an older age. The midfoot strike technology in my Skechers GOrun shoes has clearly helped me run more efficiently. The proof is in the performance.”
Skechers GOrun is an award-winning innovative lightweight running line featuring revolutionary technology that promotes a midfoot strike and GOimpule sensors for a responsive experience. Meb provides the Skechers Performance Division with ongoing expert insight by testing and consulting on the design of shoes like the all-new Skechers GOrun 2, the pro-level Skechers GOrun Speed racing line, and other high-performance product currently in development.
“SKECHERS congratulates Meb and we’re honored the Skechers Performance Division has been there for each of his incredible achievements this past year,” said SKECHERS president Michael Greenberg. “After all Meb has accomplished wearing Skechers GOrun, plus the media accolades for our shoes, we’ve established the Skechers Performance brand as a serious player in this market. Now as Meb continues to inspire more and more runners around the globe, there should be no doubt that training and racing in Skechers GOrun and our entire collection of innovative Skechers Performance footwear can lead to great success in competition.”
Meb returns to competition this spring where he’ll race in his Skechers GOrun footwear at the iconic Boston Marathon on April 15.
