Our Energy Lights rechargeable shoes have been a huge hit this year – our kids’ styles have flown off the shelves since they launched, and now they’re available for adults as well! Everyone loves wearable technology, and these sneakers have so many light combinations (seven unique lights, four different modes and up to six hours on a single charge) that the world can’t get enough of them. Plus, they’re so easy to charge and go – Energy Lights even come with their own USB cable!

Here’s how simple Energy Lights are to charge and use:

1. LIFT FLAPS – Right behind each sneaker’s tongue is Energy Lights’ charging port – just flip up the tongue flap cover, and you’re ready for charging.

2. INSERT CABLES – Energy Lights have a dual cable so you can charge both shoes simultaneously. Just insert the cables into the ports on each shoe (make sure to push the end of the USB firmly into the port, so that the shoe will properly charge).

3. PLUG IN – Connect the other side of the cable to a computer, or a USB plug adapter if you have one. Once the cable is properly connected, the lights on the sole will flash red when it’s charging.

4. UNPLUG AND GO – It’ll take approximately two hours for your Energy Lights to fully charge – the red lights on the sole will turn off once they’re done charging. Make sure to unplug the cables when done (don’t overcharge or leave plugged in overnight).

Once you’re done wearing your Energy Lights, you can hold the power button on your tongue down for three seconds to turn them off.

Still need to get a pair? You can find them here. Leave your Energy Lights questions for us in the comments!

There’s something special about a fresh pair of shoes right out of the box. From that new shoe smell to the unblemished look—we all love a brand new pair. Of course the more you wear your favorite pair, you have to understand that a little dirt or grime will show up over time.  Or if you’re unlucky, you’ll accidentally step in mud—or something worse!  And if we’re talking about kids—all bets are off when it comes to keeping anything they wear pristine.

Fortunately, we have some tips to help keep your Skechers in the best shape possible. With proper care you can extend the life and look of your favorite pair.

Never machine wash light-up shoes—or any shoes that include any form of electronics. The batteries and wires don’t like being fully submerged in water!  For regular non-leather sneakers, first try to hand wash the shoes with cold water using a damp cloth with a mild detergent.

Most non-leather casual shoes can be safely machine washed—if needed—on the gentle cycle and air-dried. Apply a protectant such as Skechers Water Proofer Spray to guard the shoes from water and stains. For shoes with Skechers Memory Foam™ insoles, allow shoes and insoles to air dry for 10 to 12 hours to ensure the insoles are fully dry.

Machine washing Skechers GOwalk and Skechers GOrun shoes is not recommended. Start by removing excess dirt from the upper and outsole by using a small brush or towel. Then create a soapy mixture by combining warm water and a small amount (a few drops) laundry detergent. Finally, dip the brush or cloth into the soapy mixture. Wipe down the affected area. Apply a small amount of clean, warm water with the brush or cloth and brush/wipe off the excess soap. Allow the shoes to air dry.

Apply a protectant such as Skechers Water Proofer Spray to guard the shoes from water and stains before wearing in wet conditions. Use a leather cleaning lotion or spray such as Skechers Athletic Cleanser to clean. Apply a leather lotion or oil periodically to keep the leather supple. Do not machine wash leather shoes.

For smooth leather, the shoes will need cleaning and care with shoe creams or polishes. Select a neutral shade or a color nearest to the color of the shoes. Remove all the dust with a damp cloth. Never polish wet shoes.

For scuff resistant leather, remove minor scuffs by simply rubbing them with your hand. The natural oil in your hand restores the original look of the leather. For deeper scrapes and scuffs, use a soft and neutral polish. This process moisturizes and replenishes the natural oil in the leather leaving a shiny coating that will prolong and sustain the wear of the leather.

Apply a protectant such as Skechers Water Proofer Spray to guard the shoes from water and stains before wearing in wet conditions. Do not machine wash suede or nubuck shoes. When shoes are dry, brush with a dry rubber sponge or soft brush to eliminate any clinging dirt. Regular use of a soft brush will keep the nap of the suede free from dust. Stubborn stains should be removed with commercial stain remover suitable for the suede or nubuck material.

Machine washing light-up shoes is not advised as it may damage the lights. Clean with mild soap, warm water, and a soft cloth.

Never put wet shoes in a clothes dryer or near a heat source—this includes anything that would force dry your shoes like a radiator, tumble dryer, fireplace, hairdryer or any other source of direct heat. The heat source may melt or otherwise damage your shoes. Always allow shoes to dry naturally at room temperature. Stuff the shoes with paper and let them air dry. Use a shoetree to help your shoes maintain their shape when not in use.

Apply a deodorizing product such as Skechers Odor Eliminator Spray to keep shoes fresh and odor-free. This spray is specifically formulated to deodorize and freshen Skechers footwear and you can find it on here.

Another effective solution to this issue is Baking Soda or Activated Charcoal (which can be found at most pet stores that sell fish tank/aquarium items). Simply put the powder of your choice in a bag, set your shoes on top of the powder, tie up the bag and let the shoes sit in the bag for 2 to 3 days.

Did you know that Skechers offers an entire collection of utility and safety footwear designed to protect on the job?  In fact, Skechers has the #1 WORK brand in the United States. We designed the Skechers WORK collection for men and women working in kitchens, hospitals, warehouses, janitorial, construction and more. Every style includes features that protect against one or more dangers including slippery surfaces, impact, water and electrical hazards—each independently tested and certified to rigorous industry standards.

Our slip-resistant outsoles follow the ASTM F1677-2005 Mark II testing standard on clean Red Quarry tile and meet or exceed a result of 0.40 under wet or oily conditions. Styles that offer Electrical Hazard protection meet ASTM F2413-20011 EH requirements and are constructed to resist disruptive discharge to the ground under 18 kV 60Hz AC for one minute with no current flow in excess of one milliampere under dry conditions. Electro-static Dissipative styles are designed to reduce the accumulation of excess static electricity by conducting body charge to the ground following the ASTM F2892 standard.

Skechers WORK Safety Toe footwear offers a variety of impact protection options in the toe cap all meeting or exceeding the ASTM F2413-2011, I/75 C/75 standards for impact and compression.  Steel Safety Toe styles feature a more traditional hard steel protective cap over the toe area.  Lightweight Safety Toe styles feature a toe cap protected by an alloy material created with ultra-lightweight, durable and high-grade materials for superior strength and comfort. Lastly Composite Safety Toe series footwear delivers the same level of protection and comfort using a non-metallic composite material. Select styles also include Waterproof protection designed to keep feet dry for at least eight hours in water or wet conditions tested with the SATRA TM77 method utilizing membrane and seam-sealed construction.

And best of all many styles in the collection are special versions of trendy Skechers profiles designed with a Relaxed Fit to give extra space in the toe area plus a soft Skechers Memory Foam insole for enhanced comfort when you must be on your feet all day. These shoes and boots look great, feel amazing, and help keep you safe throughout your shift.

Take a look at a few styles from the collection above—all three protect against slippery surfaces and electrical dangers. For women who want a traditional low profile sneaker the Relaxed Fit: Eldred SR on the left is a perfect option. Or for those who prefer an easy-on, easy-off design there’s the Relaxed Fit: Cozard SR seen center. And for men, the Relaxed Fit: Flex Advantage SR to the right is a popular traditional sneaker that that gets the job done. With back-to-school in full swing, we have a lot of parents visiting our stores to grab new shoes for their kids’ growing feet. Much of mom’s and dad’s attention focuses on what styles to buy for their little ones (More Skechers Memory Foam sneaks for boys and girls? Twinkle ToesS Lights or Skech-Air? Mega Blades and Game Kicks for fun? So many options!) but many parents overlook one of the most crucial elements of shoe shopping: the importance of properly sizing your kids’ feet. After all, running in shoes all day long is serious business!

If you want to get into the science of it all, our kids are actually born with cartilage in their feet, which doesn’t completely become bone until they’re around 16-18. A good fit tester will tell you that it’s not just where your toes are, but also the width of your foot, your heel shape, arch support and more. So where to start?

IMG_2427Skechers stores are one great option, where our associates can help parents find comfortable shoes for their kids. Believe it or not, sizing is a lot more fun than it used to be! We still have tools like the Brannock Device (you know, that old school metal contraption you’d stand on) but now our stores also offer a much more fun way to size kids’ soles.

Our colorful blue Skechers Kids mats have bright orange footprints that are fun for kids to jump on, and they measure their feet in seconds flat. A lot more kid-friendly, which makes for a much happier shopping experience.

IMG_2299But what happens if you’re at home and want to buy your kids’ shoes online in the comfort of your home? No fear, Skechers has found a way. Enter the Skechers Fit Guide: a quick and easy way to get your kids’ feet sized up right at home. All you need is a printer, ruler, scissors, some scotch tape and voila – your very own foot sizer!

Some tips to keep in mind when you’re sizing:

– Measure kids’ soles while they’re standing.

– Make sure to measure both feet, and order the size that fits the longer foot.

– If your child is between sizes, always get the bigger one (remember, their feet grow fast!) or you can buy a shoe that’s up to a half size over your kid’s current foot size to give yourself a little more time before you have to head back to Skechers for the next pair.

– Keep an eye out for the blue borders on our Fit Guide – if your kid’s feet overlap onto them, Skechers also offers select children’s styles in wide width sizes, which may be a more comfortable fit.

Once you get your kid’s shoes, there are additional ways you can make sure that they’re a great fit. Check where your child’s toes end, and make sure that there’s a half a thumbnail width from the end of the toes to the front of the shoes. A lesser known but equally important tip: see if the widest part of your kid’s feet is in the same place as the widest part of the new shoes. It’s important that shoes flex in the right place on your child’s feet, which can only happen if they fit properly and aren’t too big.

Ready to measure your kid’s soles at home? Let us know how it goes!
