On May 29, 1992—24 years ago—an exciting idea became a reality when Skechers was officially incorporated in sunny Manhattan Beach, California. Things were a bit different in those early days. Business was conducted from a beach house and the only style available was a logger boot at the forefront of grunge era trends. While we’ve always been proud of our heritage, many styles have come and gone over the years, but that original Cascades boot for men remains in the collection even today!
Skechers quickly gained popularity and before anyone could blink, the collection expanded to women’s and kids’ footwear and currently there’s more than 3,000 styles available in over 160 countries around the globe. What started out as a trend-right lifestyle brand now includes cool light-up shoes for kids, the charity-focused BOBS collection and an entire award-winning Skechers Performance Division that made an instant impact in the running world with champion elite marathoner Meb Keflezighi. And with Skechers Memory Foam, we’re now tops when it comes to comfort. It’s been an amazing ride!
Along the way we’ve brought some amazing celebrity talent—Britney, Christina, Carrie, Ashley, a man of iron, and the always infamous Kim. Now it’s all about multi-platinum recording artists Demi Lovato and Meghan Trainor who both recently launched fun new ads for awesome cool new collections. And there’s the world famous drummer Ringo Starr, model and actress Kelly Brook, as well as TV personality Brooke Burke-Charvet–she first modeled for Skechers in the early ’90s! Plus, Joe Montana is back and Howie Long is on board for the 2016 football season. That’s all in addition to Meb and elite runner Kara Goucher plus pro golfers Matt Kuchar, Belén Mozo and Colin Montgomerie. Whew! Still going incredibly strong at the ripe age of 24!

For the second consecutive year, Skechers has been named the Company of the Year by industry trade magazine Footwear Plus. This win marks the seventh time Skechers received the prestigious top award! In addition, Footwear Plus awarded Skechers the 2015 Plus Award for Excellence in Design & Retail in the Athleisure category. In previous years, we have won awards for young women’s design, women’s streetwear, kids, men’s streetwear, and running.
Skechers president Michael Greenberg commented on the accolades:

Merely a few short weeks after being honored by Footwear News with their Lifetime Achievement Award, Skechers CEO Robert Greenberg has been recognized once again. The website ExecRank has listed Greenberg as number 17 on its annual listing of top CEOs in the United States. Especially notable is that Greenberg was the only footwear company CEO to make the top 20 in any of the three ranked categories—Small-Cap, Mid-Cap (where Skechers was ranked) and Mega/Large-Cap.
In speaking with Footwear News about these latest accolades, Robert Greenberg stated, “[I feel] wonderful, especially considering the other successful footwear companies in our enormously challenging industry, and I was chosen. It’s because of the popularity and phenomenal growth of our brand and company over the last three years.”
As Skechers is more popular than ever in the United States and around the globe and the company is consistently recognized as a leader in the footwear industry, everyone at Skechers is proud that our chief is getting the attention he deserves as well. We’ve been holding a secret for a little while now…a second* pop sensation will be teaming up with Skechers! Meghan Trainor, who everyone knows from her six-times platinum single “All About That Bass,” will be appearing in a global campaign for Skechers set to launch later this year!
In case you’ve been vacationing on Mars and don’t know Meghan Trainor, here’s a little background—the multi-instrumentalist independently released three albums by the time she turned 17. While still in high school, she was discovered by a Nashville publishing company and started writing tracks for hot country artists like Rascal Flatts and Hunter Hayes.
Now signed with Epic Records, Trainor followed last year’s mega-hit single “All About That Bass” with her debut album, Title, which entered the Billboard 200 album chart at #1 when it was released earlier this year. The album’s second single, “Lips Are Movin,” has been certified two-times Platinum and the third single, “Dear Future Husband,” is platinum.
Meghan can currently be seen performing live at dates across the United States on her MTRAIN Tour. We pulled her aside for a few minutes to get her thoughts on the announcement and this is what she had to say:

Legendary New York closer Mariano Rivera may have retired in 2013 but the future Hall of Famer still has his head in the game as the latest Skechers sports icon representing Relaxed Fit! We were on the scene last month during Rivera’s debut Skechers commercial shoot at a stadium just outside New York City.
Check out this behind the scenes video to hear Mariano’s advice for young players who are passionate about succeeding in the sport.
And here’s a sneak peek of the new fun spot starring Mariano that will premiere during tonight’s All Star game airing on FOX. It takes a lot of work to break in a new glove. Are you ready for some fun insight from the shoot? As you could tell in Mariano’s behind-the-scenes interview, the ground is wet in the stadium! It might have ended up being a literal wash if not for some quick thinking by our writers, crew and Mariano himself. The iconic pitcher knew how to stay relaxed during the delay and we built a second fun spot around that concept that you’ll see soon.
