SKECHERS PIER TO PIER FRIENDSHIP WALK RAISES OVER $1.4 MILLION FOR KIDS

For the past seven years, thousands of friends and families have gathered at the Manhattan Beach Pier to walk for kids with special needs and education. Every year of the SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk has broken new records in attendance and donations – and this year was no different! More than 12,000 people joined us at the beach on Sunday morning, blowing away this year’s $1.2 million goal to raise $1.4 million for children.

Many celebrities have taken part in this event over the years, and have returned year after year to lend their support. Brooke Burke-Charvet, Denise Austin and Tommy Lasorda were all back this year to cheer on the crowd – along with legendary boxer Sugar Ray Leonard, who made his SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk debut and was thrilled to take part.

“When you say kids to me, I’m there,” said Sugar Ray. “This is my first, but believe me – this will not be my last.”

The SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk’s grown into one of Southern California’s biggest events for kids – raising more than $5.5 million over the years to support The Friendship Circle, an organization for children with special needs, and education foundations in support of schools. Peer mentorships, social programs, new libraries, teachers’ salaries, classes that would otherwise have been shuttered – all of these and so much more benefit daily from the event’s contributions.

A huge thanks to all of the walkers and volunteers; our co-sponsor Nickelodeon; Steel Partners and its generous #P2PSteelSports Selfie Challenge, which pledged a $5 donation for every SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk selfie posted; and all of the wonderful sponsors who give tirelessly year after year to help educate and inspire the next generation.
