According to The Healthy Eating Guide, there are currently more than 25,000 fast food chains in the United States (an increase of more than 1,000% since 1970). Not only have the number of these establishments gone up in recent years, but the average serving size for burgers, fries and sodas have tripled since the 1970s, too.
With fast food chains (and adult obesity rates) on the rise, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics would like to offer some tips and educational resources to help “Get Your Plate in Shape” this month during its annual National Nutrition Month campaign.
Some of the organization’s nutritional tips include:
- Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables
- Eating more whole grains
- Cutting your sodium intake
- Controlling your portions
Aside from nutritional advice, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics also recommends that adults stay physically active by performing at least two hours and 30 minutes of activities that require moderate effort (e.g., brisk walking) each week.
Whether you’re already an avid runner or are just starting to conquer your health goals, SKECHERS has plenty of fitness styles to suit your needs and help get you moving during National Nutrition Month:
