Trend Talk

Fall is in full swing, and there’s nothing better than grabbing a cup of cocoa, an old sweater, jeans and your favorite boots to feel cozy yet fashionably trendy during the cold months.

To get an inside look at the latest boot trends, we asked our women’s merchandiser Christina to highlight some of the season’s hottest boot styles.

Blue Boot_48696

Booties continue to lead the charge with different materials and colors and heels that complement any style – and this one comes in your choice of Tan or the hot color of the season, Navy.  With a zip closure and finished edging at the top, the Native looks great paired with dresses or jeans.  The heel is just high enough that you feel dressed for any occasion, yet your feet won’t cry at the end of the night.

A higher heel than the Natives at two inches, the Taxi is the boot of the season.  Comfort has never looked so stylish.  A suede bootie with a criss-cross leather band on the top and buckle detailing make this a MUST HAVE for the fashionista in us all.  Available in Black and Taupe.

Fou Fou_48473.2

For the woman on the go who won’t have her fine taste in fashion compromised, this slip-on boot is just what she needs.  Add a hidden wedge and you’ll be hard pressed to take them off when it’s time to retire for the evening.  This bootie is versatile in that you can fold down the top to reveal the grey contrast lining.  Available in Black.

THE PATSY CHELSEA BOOT (#48456 at select Skechers stores)

For years, the Chelsea-inspired boot has graced runways of the finest design houses in Paris and Milan.  Our interpretation of this boot is on point with the hottest trend in booties.  With elastic side detail, this low heel slip-on bootie is so comfortable and so versatile you’ll want to buy two.  And lucky you, it comes in Black and Olive.

Tall Boot_48497

THE HIGH RISE RIDING BOOT (#48497 – Black at select Skechers stores, Brown at

It wouldn’t be fair if we didn’t design a tall boot – and with our line-up of riding boots, you’ll want them all.  Our asymmetrical zip boot is great for anyone.  There are people who love a tall boot but wouldn’t dare wear one because they get tight on the calf.  Not the case here!!!  Our tall boot has an elastic inset to give a little stretch for those who need it.  Add the asymmetrical zipper closure and buckle detail and this look is classic!  This boot is available in Black and Brown.

Whether you like a traditional look or you’re following the latest trend in fall fashion, Skechers has a great line-up of boots for everyone. What’s your favorite Skechers boot style? Tell us in the comments!

For fall I’m wearing Skechers Cascades boots, a perennial classic favorite. Their padded tongue, soft fabric lining, and cushioned insole made them the perfect choice for my line of work. As Creative Director of a fashion brand named Pocket Square Clothing I find myself taking on a plethora of different roles. Versatility in function is key for me; this made the Cascades boots ideal to take along with me on a busy day of fabric sourcing, meetings, and a dash of carpentry work in preparation for my store opening.

My personal style tends to take cues from my interest in patterns, prints, and textures which derive from my love of street wear and formal education in architecture. My look for the day features a mandarin color style chambray shirt, relaxed fit navy blue blazer, mustard color lapel flower for color, camouflage print cargo pants, and of course my Skechers Cascades boots. I find that neutral tones paired with a pop of color or print leave lasting impressions.

With an architecture background, I’ve always found form and function to be equally as important. My style takes from these cues (pocket, pockets, and more pockets). I find myself never having too many pockets; they serve me well when cutting fabric swatches, carrying sheers, color samples, sunglasses, and other essentials like my phone, keys and wallet. This same idea also rings true for the Skechers Cascades as they are extremely well crafted and ready to take on any work you throw at them.

The Skechers Cascade boots are offered in two colors and come with different shoe lace options allowing you to be as subdued or unique with your hiking style boot laces.

Hey Moms & Dads! Back to school is almost here – are your kids ready to rock the halls in the latest styles? We asked our kids’ merchandisers Jennifer and Georgia for the hottest fall looks, and here are their top picks.

Out of this World.

What they’ll love: “The future is now! According to experts, we’ll be able to set foot on other planets in just a few years. These Mega Blade 2.0 styles are perfect for the job! The royal blue style has a great color pop, and the silver black look is perfect for the hot metallic trend for Back To School 2015. With an easy slip-on, Z-strap design and these way-cool ‘blade’ shock absorbers, he’ll be leaping in the air.”

What you’ll love: “Easy-close straps, a non-marking outsole, and loads of comfort features for little feet: from the soft fabric lining and padded tongue and collar to cushioned comfort insoles.”

Athletics that Rock Comfort and Cool.

“As back-to-school shopping kicks off, boys are taking a walk in dad’s shoes or pulling from their older siblings with mini-me versions of their lightweight athletic shoes. Athletic remains the lead category for back-to-school. Flex Advantage’s FlexSole shock absorbing lightweight midsoles and ultra-flexible traction outsoles will keep him active on the playground – and the 3D printed toe overlay and reflective lace and side-striping details exude the cool factor on the Nitrate. And don’t forget the gel-infused memory foam: he won’t want to take them off!”

Sporty Metallic Coolness.

“Metallics in the fashion world have become a very exciting trend. It gives apparel and footwear pieces an edgy, fun look. Skechers has added a piece of their own with an exciting new line in the girls’ division. The Shoutouts are mid-high and lower profile sneakers for girls that feature metallic textures and fun metal embellishments. Gunmetal and Gold stand out beautifully, but at the same time can be considered clean and classic. Shoutouts – Zipsters rock studs and zipper hardware, while Shoutouts – Shorty Shouts has unique quilted side panel treatments. Both these looks are on a cool sporty skate outsole. The collection provides something fresh and exciting that an older trendy Skechers girl will love and ‘shout out’, FASHIONISTA!! Very cool!”

So-Cute High-Tops: from Bling to Boucle.

“Little girls love rhinestones, bling and sparkles. The new Skechers Twinkle Toes High Top collection has it all! These cool sneakers provide a fun look to any outfit. Our signature rhinestone toe caps and light-up features continue throughout the high-top category, but also have trend-right elements. Metallic textures and fun hardware are new to the collection and all can be found on Shuffles – Heart & Sole. And navy is the new black! It can be paired with classic jeans for a casual look or with a fun skirt to add flare.”

“Another trendy element that fits perfectly on a Twinkle Toe high-top is boucle, such as on Chit Chat – Sweet Seekers. Multi-color boucle textures, pink eyelet sparkly trim, a satin bow and heart charm are all combined to give this high-top a feminine, girly look. Plus one other special feature on this Limited Edition style: gel-infused Skechers Memory Foam!  What little girl wouldn’t love this in her sneaker collection? Perfect!”

Comfort with a Pretty Twist.

“Comfort and fitness is a huge trend that’s being followed by many departments in the fashion world. The styles found in the Skechers Girl Sport collection include flexible outsoles, Skechers Gel-Infused Memory Foam and comfy textures. Bright colors are a great trend which Skechers covers in a fabulous, girly way. On the Skech-Air look, girls can have a fun bouncy outsole which provides comfort and also stand out style, such as on Skech-Air – Jumpabout.”

“A variety of colors and patterns help cover every type of girl and can meet any BTS need. This collection covers both lace uppers for a sporty older look, as well as bungee uppers for quick closures to help out the younger girl, such as on Skech Appeal – Ziggy Zag. These looks can be sneakers for everyday school needs, afterschool activities or gym shoes.”

We asked the Skechers marketing team for suggestions on what everyone should be reading this summer.  Here’s the top picks to get you through the hot weeks ahead:

DK Eyewitness Travel Guides: Costa Rica and Spain plus Rosetta Stone Spanish
Clearly, I have a plan and it includes a trip to Spain and Costa Rica.  We’ll see if I return from my world tour.  JK boss.
— JD

Fault In Our Stars by John Green
I couldn’t put this adorable love story down while on vacation last summer.  It was the perfect beach-side read!
— Lara

The Glitter Plan by Pamela Skaist-Levy, Gela Nash-Taylor, Booth Moore
I love The Glitter Plan because it’s the story about how a once prominent fashion company came to be and the decisions that ultimately led it its demised.
— Thomas

Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain
For someone who enjoys cooking this book was such a great find! I love his writing style. He’s funny and clever and he loves his French Culinary terms. A perfect summer read for those who want to take a closer look into the culinary world.
— Marcella

Little Bee by Chris Cleave
I know I am slow to the dance on this one (came out 2008), but I just picked it up and can’t put it down (except to come to work). Powerful story, strong writing, and great female characters from a British author.
— Jenn

The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg
Managing/Coaching other people has it’s challenges and the Power of Habit helps the reader to understand why others do what they do, why we do what we do;  then shows you how to influence change in others and well as yourself. Helps you realize “Change” isn’t as difficult as you might think.
— Kathryn

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
It’s a dystopian sci-fi adventure about video games and 80’s pop culture—pretty much everything you want in a light summer book!  I couldn’t put it down and read the whole thing on a flight back from France last month so you’ll have time for the boring tomes everyone else suggested when you’re done with this one.  Did I say 80’s pop culture?
— James

Sharp Objects and Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
I read Gone Girl before the movie came out, so wanted to check out her other books. They all feature strong female characters and the themes are very dark and mysterious. Good summer reads, since they are page-turners that don’t require much analysis!
— Lauren

The Small of Children’s Backs by Lidia Yuknavitch
I just started reading this, but I was drawn to it because it’s about redemption, art, and heartache.
— Kathryn

Yes, Yes Cherries by Mary Otis
Though I don’t normally gravitate to short stories, I found this collection alive with relate able characters–complete with wonderful imperfections. A perfect summer travel companion–especially for short flights.
— Jenn

Yoga Girl by Rachel Brathen
Yoga Girl is my favorite read because she is very motivating in a way that is not typical for a yoga person. She is not a cookie cutter yogi.  She drinks wine, gets mad and speaks her mind using the “F” word if she feels like.
— Claudia
