LET’S GET PATRIOTIC

P1020375
Do you have your reds, whites and blues ready for the big celebrations this weekend?  From bikinis to tees and shorts to hats and yes even footwear, this is the best time to show off your pride with stars and stripes in the most creative ways possible.  Some have the skills to pull off this once-a-year look perfectly, but even the tackiest combinations of these All-American colors get a pass on the Fourth of July.  It’s a day when we’re understandably focused on picnics, barbecues, and all sorts of gatherings with family and friends where we enjoy good food, better drinks and…of course…fireworks!

What kind of red, white and blue look will you be rocking on Saturday…or any other day this long weekend? Let us know in the comments and if you have a cool patriotic outfit that features red, white and/or blue Skechers, we want to see it!  Don’t forget to tag @skechers on Instagram or post to our facebook page!

GREAT SUMMER READS

IMG_3965

We asked the Skechers marketing team for suggestions on what everyone should be reading this summer.  Here’s the top picks to get you through the hot weeks ahead:

DK Eyewitness Travel Guides: Costa Rica and Spain plus Rosetta Stone Spanish
Clearly, I have a plan and it includes a trip to Spain and Costa Rica.  We’ll see if I return from my world tour.  JK boss.
— JD

Fault In Our Stars by John Green
I couldn’t put this adorable love story down while on vacation last summer.  It was the perfect beach-side read!
— Lara

The Glitter Plan by Pamela Skaist-Levy, Gela Nash-Taylor, Booth Moore
I love The Glitter Plan because it’s the story about how a once prominent fashion company came to be and the decisions that ultimately led it its demised.
— Thomas

Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain
For someone who enjoys cooking this book was such a great find! I love his writing style. He’s funny and clever and he loves his French Culinary terms. A perfect summer read for those who want to take a closer look into the culinary world.
— Marcella

Little Bee by Chris Cleave
I know I am slow to the dance on this one (came out 2008), but I just picked it up and can’t put it down (except to come to work). Powerful story, strong writing, and great female characters from a British author.
— Jenn

The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg
Managing/Coaching other people has it’s challenges and the Power of Habit helps the reader to understand why others do what they do, why we do what we do;  then shows you how to influence change in others and well as yourself. Helps you realize “Change” isn’t as difficult as you might think.
— Kathryn

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
It’s a dystopian sci-fi adventure about video games and 80’s pop culture—pretty much everything you want in a light summer book!  I couldn’t put it down and read the whole thing on a flight back from France last month so you’ll have time for the boring tomes everyone else suggested when you’re done with this one.  Did I say 80’s pop culture?
— James

Sharp Objects and Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
I read Gone Girl before the movie came out, so wanted to check out her other books. They all feature strong female characters and the themes are very dark and mysterious. Good summer reads, since they are page-turners that don’t require much analysis!
— Lauren

The Small of Children’s Backs by Lidia Yuknavitch
I just started reading this, but I was drawn to it because it’s about redemption, art, and heartache.
— Kathryn

Yes, Yes Cherries by Mary Otis
Though I don’t normally gravitate to short stories, I found this collection alive with relate able characters–complete with wonderful imperfections. A perfect summer travel companion–especially for short flights.
— Jenn

Yoga Girl by Rachel Brathen
Yoga Girl is my favorite read because she is very motivating in a way that is not typical for a yoga person. She is not a cookie cutter yogi.  She drinks wine, gets mad and speaks her mind using the “F” word if she feels like.
— Claudia

DESIGNER INSIGHT: QUARTZ ADVENTURE

Trail_1

Women’s outdoor shoes with performance features commonly look like men’s styles made in smaller sizes. It seemed like the market forgot that women are buying women’s hiking shoes. It was so obvious to me to design femininity and sleekness into our outdoor footwear.  I looked to nature for inspiration (of course!). I thought about all the beautiful things we find on a hike, some of my favorite discoveries are gemstones and crystals.  Using this inspiration, I designed the Quartz construction for our Skechers Adventure Relaxed Fit collection. Its rugged and feminine design is so in tune with nature. Floral lining, diamond shaped lugs, strong and soft materials, and on-trend pop colors make this group stand out above the rest in the outdoor market. All this beauty plus the function found in sport shoes.  And the casual styling makes it easy to pair with any outfit.  I’m so excited about this product and I can’t wait to see these beauties on the trail!

TIME TO PLAY OUTSIDE

95521 BLLM_3For the last couple months, playtime has meant one of two things for many kids.  On one hand there’s the afternoons of bundled-up and boot-wearing adventures through the snow.  At the other end of the spectrum, there’s the warm indoor fun with toys and videogames.  Now the ice has melted off the playground and snow no longer covers the blacktop and grass fields. Spring sports and activities start kicking up and kids want to play outside more than ever. (And for those who don’t—maybe give them a gentle push at the door!) With the boots back in storage and last year’s shoes probably a size too small at this point, it’s a great time to check out the latest collection of lightweight Skechers Kids sneakers for boys and girls.

Every pair is super flexible and many styles even feature a soft Skechers Memory Foam insole for added comfort during all those countless hours of active play and sports. Designed with sporty athletic styling and cool, bright colors that make an impact, there’s sure to be a style that shows off your little one’s unique personality.

SPRING SANDAL SEASON STARTS NOW!

38392 BKNT

After one of the toughest slogs through winter in memory, we couldn’t be more excited that our favorite season has finally returned. We love Spring for so many reasons. This is when everything about the world opens up in a sensory overload that makes you feel guilty staying inside. From the moment that first brave green bud breaks through, it’s a continuous assault of color and vibrant life that puts huge smiles on our faces.

How great is it to shed the heavy jackets and outer layers to feel that friendly sunshine again?  We look forward to the calming breeze of the season that carries the amazing scents of fresh blooming flowers and taste of fruit off the vine. Maybe it’s just the puffy white clouds creating contrast, but the sky looks bluer and cleaner and more pure this time of year than any other.

It’s a time for walks…for picnics…for relaxing on the lawn with a good book…and spending as much time as possible outside.  Best of all, it’s a time for sandals. Cute or chic, bright or bold—sandals open up the door to all the countless cool Spring looks that we’ve been waiting so long to wear.

Do you love the start of Spring as much as we do?  We’re celebrating this joyous annual event with the Skechers Hello Spring sweepstakes on Instagram.  Ten winners will receive a pair of Skechers sandals to kick off the new season in style.  It’s easy to enter!  Just take a pic or video that shows us what spring looks like in your neighborhood and post with #SkechersHelloSpring.  Sweepstakes ends March 28, 2015. BLOG TAKEOVER: CECILIA FALLS FOR FOAMIES

Today I’ve partnered up with Skechers to talk about the reasons why Skechers Foamies are the perfect shoes for kids, especially toddlers.

Reason 1: Machine Washable!

My son Zaden gravitates towards all things messy and isn’t afraid to get dirty – and it’s a pain to clean mud, sand, or even food off of his shoes. I LOVE that Skechers Foamies are 100% washable: it makes cleaning them that much easier and gives me peace of mind anytime Zaden’s shoes get dirty. I just throw them in the wash, let them air dry, and they are as good as new.

Reason 2: Bright Colors.

Zaden is at an age where he loves playing and interacting with other kids and doing his own thing. With Skechers Foamies’ assortment of bright fun colors, I love that it’s easy to spot my little guy when he is playing with friends and that I’m still giving him a little bit of space so he can grow and develop his social skills.

Blue-6

Reason 3: Comfortable.

These shoes are designed so well and just by looking at them I can tell they are extremely comfortable. They have a full-length memory foam cushioned insole, and I know if Zaden could speak for himself he would say that makes all the difference. Whenever Zaden picks out his shoes, it is always one of his Skechers Foamies… always. ;)

Blue-5

Reason 4: Easy to put on.

These shoes are so simple to put on. They aren’t slip-on shoes, but the next best thing: easy straps enable you to tighten or loosen the shoes to provide the perfect fit for your little one. It takes less than ten seconds for me to get Zaden in his shoes and out the door, which I love.
