MEGHAN TRAINOR SIGNS ON WITH SKECHERS

We’ve been holding a secret for a little while now…a second* pop sensation will be teaming up with Skechers!  Meghan Trainor, who everyone knows from her six-times platinum single “All About That Bass,” will be appearing in a global campaign for Skechers set to launch later this year!

In case you’ve been vacationing on Mars and don’t know Meghan Trainor, here’s a little background—the multi-instrumentalist independently released three albums by the time she turned 17. While still in high school, she was discovered by a Nashville publishing company and started writing tracks for hot country artists like Rascal Flatts and Hunter Hayes.

Now signed with Epic Records, Trainor followed last year’s mega-hit single “All About That Bass” with her debut album, Title, which entered the Billboard 200 album chart at #1 when it was released earlier this year.  The album’s second single, “Lips Are Movin,” has been certified two-times Platinum and the third single, “Dear Future Husband,” is platinum.

Meghan can currently be seen performing live at dates across the United States on her MTRAIN Tour. We pulled her aside for a few minutes to get her thoughts on the announcement and this is what she had to say:

I’m very excited to work with Skechers! I’m proud to get behind a company that celebrates style and being true to yourself! The shoes are SO comfortable and stylish too. I know my fans will love this campaign.

Watch this space for the latest behind-the-scenes details on the #MTrainSkechers campaign as they become available!  And don’t forget to follow Meghan on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook as well!

*Don’t worry, Lovatics, Demi remains a major face for Skechers and we’ll be announcing exciting news that you’ll love in the weeks ahead!

BOBS GIVES AT CINCY SPORTS FEST

We’re thrilled to share that BOBS has passed the 12-million-pair mark for new shoes donated in the US and around the world – and we’re so excited to see our shoes lifting so many kids’ spirits around the globe.

Our latest stop: Cincy Sports Fest in Covington, Kentucky, where we partnered with Shoe Carnival and K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers to donate more than 1,200 pairs of BOBS to local kids in need. It was a great day for baseball fans: with legendary Pete Rose on-hand to sign autographs, and Cincinnati’s Florence Freedom mascots helping the kids paint their new shoes at decorating stations. Thanks to CEI Sports Inc. and the Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission, the families also enjoyed complimentary passes to the baseball convention, along with the Covington Bicentennial Celebration and ferris wheel.

We’re so excited to share every new season of BOBS, knowing that each new collection means more shoes for you and more chances for all of us to give shoes to kids everywhere. Thanks for all of your help since BOBS started… here’s to the next million!

TRAVEL BACK IN TIME

Want to see what previous civilizations lived like? From Cambodia’s Angkor Archaeological Park to Peru’s Inca Trail and Macchu Picchu to The Parthenon in Greece, there are scores of incredible relics dotting the world that will take you back hundreds and thousands of years. Check out UNESCO’s incredible World Heritage List to get an idea of all the places you can discover.

GO NORTH

Because of their Arctic Circle locales, regions like Alaska, Canada and Scandinavia have a smaller warm weather window – making the summer months absolutely gorgeous and the best time to visit. Want to live in a world where the day never ends? Travel up to small towns like Barrow in Alaska, where you can experience their 82-day stretch of sun until it finally sets again on August 2.

BEACH BUM IT

If your style is less roughing it and more lapping up luxury, find a posh resort and grab the next ticket to Hawaii, The Caribbean, Seychelles, Fiji, Costa Rica, Thailand – the list goes on. Destinations like Maldives and Turks and Caicos are great for scuba diving and exploring the underwater world. Want to stay close to the mainland? Great islands line both coasts, each with their own unique personality – from the wild horses of Georgia’s Cumberland Island to festive Avalon on California’s Catalina Island.

TACKLE THE TRAIL

It’s high season for the great outdoors, and there are a million places to venture: coasts, mountain ranges and everywhere in between. From the Great Smoky Mountains to Canyonlands, caves to great plains and rocky ocean cliffs, there’s a vast, beautiful land waiting for you to explore. Recreation.gov and ReserveAmerica have tons of ideas that will inspire you.

RELAX WITH FAMILY

Got kids? Amusement parks are always booming in the summer and are guaranteed to keep you and the little ones entertained. Pack the car, take a road trip and make the journey your destination. Even those who have to stay in their hometown can turn every weekend into their own staycation: day tripping to local aquariums, water parks and more.

GET PACKING

Break out the bag: it’s summer, and we’ve got places to go! Whether you’re weekending for a three-day holiday celebration or taking that trip of a lifetime, here’s a list to help get you inspired – from the obvious to the easily overlooked.

The basics. Wallet, keys, passport, itinerary, cell phone, charger. Miss these and you won’t get very far out of town. Going abroad? Call your credit cards and give them a heads-up, so there are no surprises when they lock up your ATM card for suspicious foreign activities. See if your cell phone company lets you make calls outside of the US; if not, an unlocked phone can be used with local SIM cards to dodge the sticker shock that most companies charge. Also check the country’s voltage in case an adapter is needed.

It’s in the bag. The right or wrong ones can make or break your trip. Luggage for the big stuff. Bathroom kits that can unzip with a million compartments (bonus for the hook that hangs in the shower stall). A tote or backpack for your day treks. Overstuffed your suitcase? An adjustable strap can keep your bag together when your zipper doesn’t. Plus an extra bag: fold it up, stuff it in and you’ll have options. For laundry, gifts and those souvenirs you’ll never use.

A real camera. As great as your phone is, sometimes an SRL captures it even better. A must-have for serious snappers who want to get right up to that grizzly without actually being there. Plus a GoPro for action enthusiasts.

The Skechers. We’ve got this part covered. Sandals for the beaches of Phuket, boots for tramping the Milford Track, cushioned memory foam casuals for walking the cobblestones in Paris. Wherever you trek, we’ve got your style.

Layer up. Plan to weather the unexpected with light shirts, insulating layers, warm tops, windbreakers and jackets. Your favorite swimsuit (and a towel if you need it). Packing light? Convertible pants unzip into shorts in a snap. Dressing up? Take something wrinkle-resistant and roll them to keep them looking like new.

Lara packing

Beautify. Look great in your Instagram pics (and make your friends at home jealous) with a beauty kit that will keep you clean, moisturized and ready to rock. Dodge the sun with Peter Thomas Roth sunscreen, and grab extra contacts, glasses and solution if you need them.

The meds. Take it from someone who went rogue at a Peruvian farmacia and lived to regret it: bring meds you’re familiar with and don’t experiment when you get sick. Both prescription and non, in case the unexpected happens.

Be well read. DK Eyewitness Travel books (and basic foreign phrases) for the love-to-know-it-alls. Fiction fantasies for great escapists. Tabloids for the shamelessly curious. Get the tomes in your local shop or online where the options are way greater than the airport bookstore.

Snooze it. Do some time out on the plane with a little R&R: a pillow, ear plugs, eye mask and cush pair of socks can do wonders. Make your own personalized kit and show first class what they’re missing.

Accessorize. Give your trip some style and sizzle with a wide-brimmed sun hat. Sunglasses. A scarf that can be used to compartmentalize your items when you’re not wearing it on the gondola.

NATIVE GARDENING

IMG_0517

Spring means it is time to plant your new garden, replace plants that didn’t survive the winter, or in the case of California, replace your water-thirsty lawn with drought-tolerant landscape. If you’re not planting edibles, then go native.

Native means local species or those from similar environments suited to your climate. This is particularly important in California, where Skechers is based. Our drought means we must cut back on watering, or eliminate it all together and go for xeriscaping. Tropical gardens andexotic plants will suck our soil dry, and though banana trees and hibiscus are beautiful, they belong in Hawaii and areas with heavy rain.

A common misconception is that drought-tolerant or xeriscape means a yard with brown or maybe green plants and ordinary succulents.  A visit to our local nursery proved this couldn’t be further from the truth.

For starters, succulents can blossom with beautiful purple, yellow and orange flowers, and the plants themselves can be colorful shades of green, red and yellow. They come in many shapes, sizes and textures—some spikey so be careful. You can create a truly breathtaking garden with succulents alone.

Add a bold, strappy plant for height and width plus a touch of the desert. Yucca works perfectly for the hotter and drier environments or in more mild climates go with New Zealand Flax. We love the Kangaroo Paw both for its bold splashes of color (red, yellow or orange) and for its ability to survive in a dry, sandy soil. Plus, birds love the blooms—I regularly see hummingbirds enjoying them in my garden.

Finally, since we are talking about flowers and pollinators, plants with silver leaves like lavender and salvia are loved by bees which is great for your garden! These plants also require little water and provide beautiful blasts of purple in your yard. Various salvia species will bloom in red, yellow and other colors, but check the watering instructions as some are thirstier than others. Woodsier varieties of herbs that also have silver leaves—think sage and rosemary—also require less water, smell wonderful in your yard, and taste great too!

Key for us in all our gardening adventures is to apply sunscreen and wear a hat plus an easy and comfortable pair of shoes. Right now, my favorite is Relaxed Fit from Skechers because of the roomier toe area and super comfy Skechers Memory Foam lining. The style I have been wearing this spring is the Relaxed Fit Reggae Fest-Deputy—they’re cute and easy to slip on and off as I go in and out of the house.

Looking forward to seeing your garden adventures in Skechers! Please share them with us on Pinterest, Instagram or Facebook with #skechers.
