(Fun fact: the original location was actually next door to the choice corner address where the store operates now.) At that time we never could have imagined that almost 20 years later we would open our 1,000th location. We’re exceptionally proud of this amazing milestone—achieved with the opening of a new store in Mexico City. We’re proud to announce that Skechers has been named 2014 Company of the Year by the leading trade publication Footwear News in its annual FN Achievement Awards. This incredible honor is thanks to our fans across six continents that have made Skechers the success that it is today.
Footwear News named Skechers GO as Brand of the Year at the awards in 2013 and we first won the top award in 1998. Skechers president Michael Greenberg reflected on how we’ve evolved in the years since:
“16 years later Skechers is a different brand and company. We have redefined our brand with innovative lines that make comfort stylish, and our global sales driven by our in-demand footwear—coupled with this Company of the Year recognition—is a testament to the entire organization that has made this happen, as well as our supportive partners around the world.”
This recognition comes on the heels of three consecutive record quarters for Skechers with the company on track set an annual record in 2014. We are proud of what we’ve done this year but it’s merely the beginning! Thank you again everyone—we couldn’t do it without you!

We’re thrilled to announce that the world’s most famous drummer—Ringo Starr—will be bringing his legendary talents and style to SKECHERS where he’s set to appear in the global marketing campaign for our SKECHERS Relaxed Fit footwear.
Ringo’s campaign will kick off with a new television spot that follows the humorous tone that has become a signature of our popular series of Relaxed Fit footwear commercials. Up until now, the series has focused on celebrities from the sports world including Joe Namath and Pete Rose, as well as Mariano Rivera in ads coming early next year. Now we’re shifting to the music world and we can’t wait for everyone to see how Ringo’s charm and cool charisma makes him the perfect ambassador for Relaxed Fit.
After more than a half century in the music industry, Ringo has released 17 solo albums and continues to tour the globe with his All Starr Band. Ringo is also known for his philanthropy and his involvement with the anti-violence #peacerocks campaign through the David Lynch Foundation being one recent example that led to his winning at the GQ Men of the Year Awards for his humanitarian work.
You’ll have to wait until Spring to see Ringo’s SKECHERS campaign, but stay tuned for more details in the months ahead!
Over the years , we’ve done all that we can to ensure that Skechers is an active member of the Manhattan Beach, CA community that we’ve called home since the company was established in 1992. Skechers has raised over $750,000 so far towards this year’s million-dollar goal for the upcoming annual Skechers Pier-to-Pier Friendship Walk benefiting local children with special needs and education. And with sponsorships of big events like Halloween Pumpkin Races and the hugely popular Holiday Fireworks, everyone at Skechers is proud to give back and support our hometown. We were humbled and honored when the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce named Skechers as winner of the 2014 Best of Manhattan award. Skechers was selected from a list of nominees that included the Manhattan Beach Marriott, Manhattan Beach Toyota, MBS Media Campus, and the Simms Restaurant Group—all fantastic businesses that work tirelessly for the community. Skechers president Michael Greenberg expressed gratitude for the recognition when he delivered remarks at an awards ceremony held on October 2, 2014.

Skechers also supports causes within the footwear industry community. The Two Ten Footwear Foundation in association with Women In the Footwear Industry LA recently hosted an event called “Leading Ladies” that featured Kathy Kartalis, SVP-Global Product for Skechers, on a panel discussion about management style. Over 30 women from Skechers HQ attended the forum to support Kathy and network with peers within the industry.

When the BOBS from SKECHERS program began in 2011, we wanted to do what we could to help children that needed footwear. We never expected it to become the hugely successful movement that it is today. Three short years later and we’ve crossed the NINE MILLION PAIR milestone! It’s truly incredible and we’re humbled by the impact that this program has had on children around the world. While we’re proud of the achievement, our mission continues with ongoing donation events. In fact, two events this past week in Nebraska City, Nebraska, and Evansville, Indiana, resulted in over 1,200 more kids receiving a new pair of shoes. The multi-platinum selling recording artist and actress is as thrilled about her new campaign as we are and told us: “I’m so excited to partner with SKECHERS on a global campaign because I love the brand! They’re so comfortable and fit well into my day-to-day life. Everyone loves to be comfortable, and SKECHERS are a perfect combination of sport and fashion.” Demi’s new ad is slated to hit the airwaves this holiday season. Retired New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, arguably the greatest relief pitcher in baseball history, has signed on with SKECHERS to join the team of sports icons representing our men’s Relaxed Fit footwear line. Rivera will star in a television commercial set to begin airing in Spring 2015—just in time for next year’s baseball season!
We asked Rivera how Relaxed Fit ties in with his storied career. He told us: “After 19 seasons on the mound, I’m the one that needs relief these days and comfortable Relaxed Fit shoes get the job done. I’m thrilled to be working with SKECHERS on the same team as the impressive roster of sports legends that have appeared in this ongoing campaign.”
Nicknamed “Sandman,” Rivera played his entire Major League Baseball career with the New York Yankees including 17 seasons as the team’s closer. A 13-time All-Star and five-time World Series champion, he holds all-time MLB records for saves (652) and games finished (952). Known for his consistency, he saved at least 25 games for a record 15 consecutive seasons and posted an ERA under 2.00 in 11 seasons. After an injury sidelined him for most of 2012, Rivera was named at age 43 as the American League’s 2013 Comeback Player of the Year—his final season before retirement.
You’ll have to wait until next year to see Rivera’s commercial, but be on the lookout for a brand new Relaxed Fit ad featuring baseball icon Pete Rose that starts airing later this week!
