GEAR UP FOR BTS

School’s right around the corner… and before you celebrate having the kids out of the house and back in class, see if they’re equipped with everything they’ll need for fall! From basic must-haves to adorable trends that will make a big statement in and out of school, check out this quick list to make sure your little one’s ready to rock the halls.

THE BASICS. Gear up with all the necessary must-haves for class! The old school list for making the grade still applies: loads of notebooks and paper, pencils and pens, erasers and highlighters. Binders, folders, and pouches that help organize it all. Crayons, glue and scissors for the young set. Calculators and thumb drives for the number crunchers and tech-savvy.

KEEP IT CLEAN. From lunchtime to art projects and fun on the playground, it’s always great to have extra wipes on hand. Grab a bottle of hand sanitizer to keep their hands clean during meals and reduce the fall and winter colds to a minimum.

BAG THE BITE. Nibbling’s always more fun when you’ve got something new to pop, unzip and store – and a new lunch kit can be as important to kids as the actual food they’re eating (let’s face it, probably more). Box it, bag it, zip it, bottle it – if it keeps it cool and is cool to carry, it’s a home run. Your kid will love lunchtime with our new light-up Skechers lunch bags – now online and at select Skechers stores.

CARRY ON! Grab a lightweight backpack that’s big enough to hold all of your kid’s gear! Check out our stash of Skechers kids’ backpacks and bags at select Skechers stores and skechers.com – in loads of exclusive designs, including Skechers’ very own cast of characters.

DRESS UP. Let’s face it – the first day of school is every kid’s annual catwalk. Make sure your little one’s ready with everything he or she needs: from a perfect pair of Skechers sneaks they’ll love jumping around in, to outfits they’ll love to wear for fall. Layer it up with hoodies, denim staples, plaids over screen tees for him, and leggings, skinny jeans and a fun skirt she can wear all year round.

SNEAK ATTACK. Hit the halls in comfort with Skechers Memory Foam, great for the long school days. Check out our hottest fall picks: everything from sparkling Twinkle Toes, hot-popping SKECH-AIR sneaks and colorful looks for girls, to Adventurer sneaks, Mega-Blade styles and high-flex sneaks for boys.

BLOG TAKEOVER: THE POUND GIRLS ROCK OUT IN SKECHERS

In case we’re meeting for the first time: Hey! We’re Kirsten and Cristina, founders of POUND – Rockout. Workout and self-proclaimed fitness rebels. 9 times out of 10, you’ll find us sporting hand-cut rocker tees with a vintage flannel around the waist and rustling up noise complaints at the gym. We love taking risks with our workouts AND our #sweatstyle. We like to make our own rules when it comes to the way we dress.

And when it comes to footwear, our number one rule is SUPPORT! That’s why you’ve seen us rockin’ Skechers Flex Appeal and Equalizer training shoes — because we’re loving the supportive, comfortable memory foam insoles!

Choosing the right kicks for the right class makes all the difference. In the gym, consider three variables: surface, movement, and impact. Wearing shoes with more grip encourages balance on a slippery wood surface; a smoother bottom saves your knees and joints on a sticky or rubber floor; cushion and support are paramount in a class with jumping and quick transitions. So what kind of shoes can you wear for a full-body cardio jam session filled with over 15,000 reps of the best strength and conditioning moves? Skechers.

Whether you’re making noise at home with the POUND Rockout Results System or in the gym at a live class, POUND incorporates hundreds of plyos (jumps), squats, and lunges. For the seasoned gym vet or those new to fitness, it’s important to remember that proper training starts from the bottom up (yep, directly from your Skechers sneaks!). We depend on a strong, supportive foundation to help us jump higher, lunge further, and squat lower. Skechers’ innovative memory foam insoles keep us safe and strong in and out of the gym.

Boot 3

Skechers USA – Natives in tan suede (at select Skechers retail stores)

“Riding high into fall: the Western boot is undergoing a major revival, with young Hollywood sporting the rodeo look! This cowboy-influenced trend is popping up everywhere, with lean and sleek profiles ranging from classic black to bright and bold shades. Try it in soft suede with the versatile Skechers Natives tan boot – perfectly paired with a chic skirt, skinny jeans and everything in between.”

Colorful Comfort

Skechers Sport – Skech Flex – Power Play in hot pink

“Be a power player and feel like a celebrity wearing this Skech Flex style. Whether you’re dashing to after-school practice or walking about campus, you’re sure to be spotted in this fierce animal print (see it up close here). Sneakers are not only a commodity but a fashion statement. Say to yourself, who wore it better? Demi or me?”

“In today’s fashion world, sneakers are more versatile than ever.  Adding function to fashion provides comfort and protection to your feet while still being stylish. The benefits of this shoe are many: from bio-dri insoles that wick away sweat and provide superior breathability, to gel-infused Skechers Memory Foam insoles and ultra-soft heel counters that cradle your entire heel for all-around comfort.  Turn heads in this bright pink confection and stand out like a star!”

ESPEDRILLE 3

BOBS from Skechers – Highlights espadrille in black

“Ladies, if you love platforms, then make BOBS platform espadrilles an absolute must-have in your wardrobe! An effortless silhouette and added height make this the sought-after trend. What makes these shoes even more fabulous are the extra comfy Skechers Memory Foam insoles. Slip on these beauties with a flowy day dress, T-shirt and jeans, or a one-piece jumper. Walk tall and imagine the school hallway as your runway!”

Flower Bobs

BOBS from Skechers – Flexpadrille – Tropical Punch casual flats in black and orange

“Dare to be noticed in this season’s vibrant prints. These pretty espadrille-inspired flats bring a touch of summer to your fall wardrobe. And BOBS from Skechers is right on target with these eye-catching Flexpadrilles. The upper features a refreshing tropical floral design that gives these slip-ons a laid-back look. Not only are these adorable, they have soft Skechers Memory Foam insoles that will have you walking from class to class in comfort and style. Remember, bold prints are the most important accessory – so have fun with it! Mix colors and prints to show off your sense of style. Or keep it simple with classic white. The best is, they go perfect with a short skirt and jeans.”

BACK TO SCHOOL TRENDS FOR KIDS

Hey Moms & Dads! Back to school is almost here – are your kids ready to rock the halls in the latest styles? We asked our kids’ merchandisers Jennifer and Georgia for the hottest fall looks, and here are their top picks.

BOYS

Out of this World.

What they’ll love: “The future is now! According to experts, we’ll be able to set foot on other planets in just a few years. These Mega Blade 2.0 styles are perfect for the job! The royal blue style has a great color pop, and the silver black look is perfect for the hot metallic trend for Back To School 2015. With an easy slip-on, Z-strap design and these way-cool ‘blade’ shock absorbers, he’ll be leaping in the air.”

What you’ll love: “Easy-close straps, a non-marking outsole, and loads of comfort features for little feet: from the soft fabric lining and padded tongue and collar to cushioned comfort insoles.”

Athletics that Rock Comfort and Cool.

“As back-to-school shopping kicks off, boys are taking a walk in dad’s shoes or pulling from their older siblings with mini-me versions of their lightweight athletic shoes. Athletic remains the lead category for back-to-school. Flex Advantage’s FlexSole shock absorbing lightweight midsoles and ultra-flexible traction outsoles will keep him active on the playground – and the 3D printed toe overlay and reflective lace and side-striping details exude the cool factor on the Nitrate. And don’t forget the gel-infused memory foam: he won’t want to take them off!”

GIRLS

Sporty Metallic Coolness.

“Metallics in the fashion world have become a very exciting trend. It gives apparel and footwear pieces an edgy, fun look. Skechers has added a piece of their own with an exciting new line in the girls’ division. The Shoutouts are mid-high and lower profile sneakers for girls that feature metallic textures and fun metal embellishments. Gunmetal and Gold stand out beautifully, but at the same time can be considered clean and classic. Shoutouts – Zipsters rock studs and zipper hardware, while Shoutouts – Shorty Shouts has unique quilted side panel treatments. Both these looks are on a cool sporty skate outsole. The collection provides something fresh and exciting that an older trendy Skechers girl will love and ‘shout out’, FASHIONISTA!! Very cool!”

So-Cute High-Tops: from Bling to Boucle.

“Little girls love rhinestones, bling and sparkles. The new Skechers Twinkle Toes High Top collection has it all! These cool sneakers provide a fun look to any outfit. Our signature rhinestone toe caps and light-up features continue throughout the high-top category, but also have trend-right elements. Metallic textures and fun hardware are new to the collection and all can be found on Shuffles – Heart & Sole. And navy is the new black! It can be paired with classic jeans for a casual look or with a fun skirt to add flare.”

“Another trendy element that fits perfectly on a Twinkle Toe high-top is boucle, such as on Chit Chat – Sweet Seekers. Multi-color boucle textures, pink eyelet sparkly trim, a satin bow and heart charm are all combined to give this high-top a feminine, girly look. Plus one other special feature on this Limited Edition style: gel-infused Skechers Memory Foam!  What little girl wouldn’t love this in her sneaker collection? Perfect!”

Comfort with a Pretty Twist.

“Comfort and fitness is a huge trend that’s being followed by many departments in the fashion world. The styles found in the Skechers Girl Sport collection include flexible outsoles, Skechers Gel-Infused Memory Foam and comfy textures. Bright colors are a great trend which Skechers covers in a fabulous, girly way. On the Skech-Air look, girls can have a fun bouncy outsole which provides comfort and also stand out style, such as on Skech-Air – Jumpabout.”

“A variety of colors and patterns help cover every type of girl and can meet any BTS need. This collection covers both lace uppers for a sporty older look, as well as bungee uppers for quick closures to help out the younger girl, such as on Skech Appeal – Ziggy Zag. These looks can be sneakers for everyday school needs, afterschool activities or gym shoes.”

SONGS OF SUMMER

Music
As we close out July with only one full month left this summer, it’s the perfect time to think about what music is sticking with us in 2015. Of course our very own Demi Lovato’s megahit “Cool For Summer” is a serious contender for the hottest track of THIS summer. (Lovatics can vote now for best fandom at the Teen Choice Awards!) We polled the office to see what else everyone is rocking out to during these hottest months of the year. Check it out and let us know your favorite song of summer in the comments!

Janet Jackson feat. J. Cole – “No Sleeep
I am digging “No Sleeep” (yes 3 e’s) – It has a cool, summer groove going which would be perfect for a day at the pool. Enjoy.
—JD

Sheppard – “Geronimo
I have been playing Geronimo by Sheppard on repeat this summer!  The upbeat song helps me get through my summer workouts with a smile on my face.  No easy task!
—Lara

Rupert Holmes – “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)
Because I love piña coladas and getting caught in the rain.
—Thomas

Ice Cube – “Today Was a Good Day
It’s an old song but I know all the lyrics so that makes me feel pretty cool. It’s such an LA song. Every LA native know this song. I mean every day that you don’t have to use your AK is a good day, right?
—Claudia

Eagles – “Peaceful Easy Feeling
This is one of those classic songs that just sounds like summer. Whether you’re taking a road trip, laying on the beach or jetting off to another country, “Peaceful Easy Feeling” (along with other Eagles hits) will get you in the right mood for time well spent in the summer sun.
—Alisa

Ellie Goulding – “Burn
All though it was released earlier in the year it is a song that I continued to listen to throughout the summer. Ellie’s voice is very relaxing and the song has an uplifting vibe to it. I definitely recommend it to all!
—Marcella

Meghan Trainor feat. John Legend – “Like I’m Gonna Lose You
Beautiful message and it features the beautiful John Legend!
—JC

Elle King – “Ex’s & Oh’s
Because summer is the season for dating, and this song is all about the crazy ups and downs you experience in the dating world.
—Lauren

Katy Perry – “Roar
I don’t really have a choice. My daughter loves this song so it repeats 15-20 times per day in my car. I’ve kind of forgotten what other music sounds like.
—Brennan

Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars – “Uptown Funk!
When you hear this every day in the office next to yours, you know it’s the song of the summer (or at least someone’s summer). Great beat, great video and (sigh) Bruno Mars.
—AN

Jamie XX feat. Young Thug & Popcaan – “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)
It’s probably the most fun-filled track on The XX co-founder’s insanely fantastic solo album. As this plays it’s easy to imagine yourself with a drink in hand laughing under the sun with your closest friends.
—James

MEGHAN TRAINOR SIGNS ON WITH SKECHERS

We’ve been holding a secret for a little while now…a second* pop sensation will be teaming up with Skechers!  Meghan Trainor, who everyone knows from her six-times platinum single “All About That Bass,” will be appearing in a global campaign for Skechers set to launch later this year!

In case you’ve been vacationing on Mars and don’t know Meghan Trainor, here’s a little background—the multi-instrumentalist independently released three albums by the time she turned 17. While still in high school, she was discovered by a Nashville publishing company and started writing tracks for hot country artists like Rascal Flatts and Hunter Hayes.

Now signed with Epic Records, Trainor followed last year’s mega-hit single “All About That Bass” with her debut album, Title, which entered the Billboard 200 album chart at #1 when it was released earlier this year.  The album’s second single, “Lips Are Movin,” has been certified two-times Platinum and the third single, “Dear Future Husband,” is platinum.

Meghan can currently be seen performing live at dates across the United States on her MTRAIN Tour. We pulled her aside for a few minutes to get her thoughts on the announcement and this is what she had to say:

I’m very excited to work with Skechers! I’m proud to get behind a company that celebrates style and being true to yourself! The shoes are SO comfortable and stylish too. I know my fans will love this campaign.

Watch this space for the latest behind-the-scenes details on the #MTrainSkechers campaign as they become available!  And don’t forget to follow Meghan on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook as well!

*Don’t worry, Lovatics, Demi remains a major face for Skechers and we’ll be announcing exciting news that you’ll love in the weeks ahead!

BEST SUMMER FITNESS ACTIVITIES

You spent all winter working on your beach body.  Here’s a few of our favorite ways to maintain that level of fitness through the rest of summer.

Cycling

1. CYCLING and BIKING

The great thing about bike workouts are the many options available. Find adventure on mountain trails or get in the zone on a long distance road trek. Any way you approach it, you’ll be increasing your cardiovascular strength with each passing mile. And if you add cycling to your regular regimen, it won’t be long before you see…and feel…a difference in your calves, thighs and buttocks with reduced impact on your knees and hips compared to other intense activities. (Start riding in the Skech-Air Infinity.)

Swimming

2. SWIMMING

Not only is it refreshing to take a dip in the hot sun, swimming is one of the most efficient forms of exercise out there.  As a cardiovascular activity it offers a surefire way to strengthen your heart and lungs that steps up easily with your fitness level and endurance. Best of all it’s a full body muscular activity that’s extremely low impact. Swimming activates muscles from your arms to your chest and core through to your legs.  It’s great for injury rehab too…so if you’re having knee issues from running, you can keep up your routine in the water. (Slip into The Persistent when you get out of the water.)

Walking

3. WALKING / RUNNING / HIKING

It really just comes down to standing up and moving. In the advent of fitness trackers, we’ve all started taking the long way on foot to get that step count up. From a stroll around the block to a half marathon jog–running and walking is the easiest and most accessible way to get your blood flowing. And no matter where you find yourself this summer, it’s the one fitness activity that you’re always able to experience. (Skechers GOwalk 3 will keep you moving.)

Yoga

4. YOGA

The over 20 million Americans who practice yoga regularly have a deep understanding of the benefits that this Eastern practice can have on fitness and well-being. Learning the key poses that stretch your body from core to fingers and toes plus key techniques for improved balance, focus and breathing will help reduce the chance of injury and recovery in other activities. Check out this infographic and benefits rundown from the Huffington Post and you’ll be convinced to become master of your downward facing dog. (The Stretch-Fit – Glider coordinates with your yoga style.)

IMG_1198_SUP_edit

5. STAND-UP PADDLEBOARDING

When you see someone standing on a board while paddling (otherwise known as SUP) across the horizon, it looks serene and peaceful. That it definitely is, but in reality it can also be an intense workout that activates your core. With proper form, SUP is a fantastic activity for building ab strength while the constant tiny adjustments required to maintain balance work your leg muscles too. Learn the basics in a calm, protected harbor or marina, then dial it up when you face the waves. Either way it’s low impact, high calorie burning, super fun and gets you out on the water!  What could be better! (Carry your board wearing comfy Skechers on-the-GO – Flow sandals.)

How do you like to keep up your activity level through the warmest time of year?  Let us know in the comments!
