MEGHAN TRAINOR SIGNS ON WITH SKECHERS

We’ve been holding a secret for a little while now…a second* pop sensation will be teaming up with Skechers!  Meghan Trainor, who everyone knows from her six-times platinum single “All About That Bass,” will be appearing in a global campaign for Skechers set to launch later this year!

In case you’ve been vacationing on Mars and don’t know Meghan Trainor, here’s a little background—the multi-instrumentalist independently released three albums by the time she turned 17. While still in high school, she was discovered by a Nashville publishing company and started writing tracks for hot country artists like Rascal Flatts and Hunter Hayes.

Now signed with Epic Records, Trainor followed last year’s mega-hit single “All About That Bass” with her debut album, Title, which entered the Billboard 200 album chart at #1 when it was released earlier this year.  The album’s second single, “Lips Are Movin,” has been certified two-times Platinum and the third single, “Dear Future Husband,” is platinum.

Meghan can currently be seen performing live at dates across the United States on her MTRAIN Tour. We pulled her aside for a few minutes to get her thoughts on the announcement and this is what she had to say:

I’m very excited to work with Skechers! I’m proud to get behind a company that celebrates style and being true to yourself! The shoes are SO comfortable and stylish too. I know my fans will love this campaign.

Watch this space for the latest behind-the-scenes details on the #MTrainSkechers campaign as they become available!  And don’t forget to follow Meghan on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook as well!

*Don’t worry, Lovatics, Demi remains a major face for Skechers and we’ll be announcing exciting news that you’ll love in the weeks ahead!

BEST SUMMER FITNESS ACTIVITIES

You spent all winter working on your beach body.  Here’s a few of our favorite ways to maintain that level of fitness through the rest of summer.

Cycling

1. CYCLING and BIKING

The great thing about bike workouts are the many options available. Find adventure on mountain trails or get in the zone on a long distance road trek. Any way you approach it, you’ll be increasing your cardiovascular strength with each passing mile. And if you add cycling to your regular regimen, it won’t be long before you see…and feel…a difference in your calves, thighs and buttocks with reduced impact on your knees and hips compared to other intense activities. (Start riding in the Skech-Air Infinity.)

Swimming

2. SWIMMING

Not only is it refreshing to take a dip in the hot sun, swimming is one of the most efficient forms of exercise out there.  As a cardiovascular activity it offers a surefire way to strengthen your heart and lungs that steps up easily with your fitness level and endurance. Best of all it’s a full body muscular activity that’s extremely low impact. Swimming activates muscles from your arms to your chest and core through to your legs.  It’s great for injury rehab too…so if you’re having knee issues from running, you can keep up your routine in the water. (Slip into The Persistent when you get out of the water.)

Walking

3. WALKING / RUNNING / HIKING

It really just comes down to standing up and moving. In the advent of fitness trackers, we’ve all started taking the long way on foot to get that step count up. From a stroll around the block to a half marathon jog–running and walking is the easiest and most accessible way to get your blood flowing. And no matter where you find yourself this summer, it’s the one fitness activity that you’re always able to experience. (Skechers GOwalk 3 will keep you moving.)

Yoga

4. YOGA

The over 20 million Americans who practice yoga regularly have a deep understanding of the benefits that this Eastern practice can have on fitness and well-being. Learning the key poses that stretch your body from core to fingers and toes plus key techniques for improved balance, focus and breathing will help reduce the chance of injury and recovery in other activities. Check out this infographic and benefits rundown from the Huffington Post and you’ll be convinced to become master of your downward facing dog. (The Stretch-Fit – Glider coordinates with your yoga style.)

5. STAND-UP PADDLEBOARDING

When you see someone standing on a board while paddling (otherwise known as SUP) across the horizon, it looks serene and peaceful. That it definitely is, but in reality it can also be an intense workout that activates your core. With proper form, SUP is a fantastic activity for building ab strength while the constant tiny adjustments required to maintain balance work your leg muscles too. Learn the basics in a calm, protected harbor or marina, then dial it up when you face the waves. Either way it’s low impact, high calorie burning, super fun and gets you out on the water!  What could be better! (Carry your board wearing comfy Skechers on-the-GO – Flow sandals.)

BOBS GIVES AT CINCY SPORTS FEST

We’re thrilled to share that BOBS has passed the 12-million-pair mark for new shoes donated in the US and around the world – and we’re so excited to see our shoes lifting so many kids’ spirits around the globe.

Our latest stop: Cincy Sports Fest in Covington, Kentucky, where we partnered with Shoe Carnival and K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers to donate more than 1,200 pairs of BOBS to local kids in need. It was a great day for baseball fans: with legendary Pete Rose on-hand to sign autographs, and Cincinnati’s Florence Freedom mascots helping the kids paint their new shoes at decorating stations. Thanks to CEI Sports Inc. and the Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission, the families also enjoyed complimentary passes to the baseball convention, along with the Covington Bicentennial Celebration and ferris wheel.

We’re so excited to share every new season of BOBS, knowing that each new collection means more shoes for you and more chances for all of us to give shoes to kids everywhere. Thanks for all of your help since BOBS started… here’s to the next million!

MARIANO RIVERA PROVES HE’S A RELAXED FIT ALL-STAR

Legendary New York closer Mariano Rivera may have retired in 2013 but the future Hall of Famer still has his head in the game as the latest Skechers sports icon representing Relaxed Fit! We were on the scene last month during Rivera’s debut Skechers commercial shoot at a stadium just outside New York City.

Check out this behind the scenes video to hear Mariano’s advice for young players who are passionate about succeeding in the sport.

And here’s a sneak peek of the new fun spot starring Mariano that will premiere during tonight’s All Star game airing on FOX.  It takes a lot of work to break in a new glove. Relaxed Fit footwear from Skechers includes a soft Skechers Memory Foam insole that feels comfortable instantly without any break in period at all!

Are you ready for some fun insight from the shoot? As you could tell in Mariano’s behind-the-scenes interview, the ground is wet in the stadium! While a bit of light rain was always in the forecast, we didn’t expect the torrential downpour that the skies unleashed upon our set that day. It might have ended up being a literal wash if not for some quick thinking by our writers, crew and Mariano himself. The iconic pitcher knew how to stay relaxed during the delay and we built a second fun spot around that concept that you’ll see soon.

Check out the shoes on our website and watch for more from Rivera and Relaxed Fit in the months ahead!

GREAT SUMMER ESCAPES

With two months of summer left and the clock ticking, many of us are masterminding our next vacation. Will it be a little trek out of town or a bigger getaway? From everyday haunts to exotic locales, we’re dreaming up fun places to go that we hope will inspire your warm weather plans.

HIT THE PAVEMENT

Cities around the world await! From New York and San Francisco to Paris, London, Dubai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and beyond, every metropolis is rich with the best cuisines, museums, music and theaters. TRAVEL BACK IN TIME

Want to see what previous civilizations lived like? From Cambodia’s Angkor Archaeological Park to Peru’s Inca Trail and Macchu Picchu to The Parthenon in Greece, there are scores of incredible relics dotting the world that will take you back hundreds and thousands of years. Check out UNESCO’s incredible World Heritage List to get an idea of all the places you can discover.

GO NORTH

Because of their Arctic Circle locales, regions like Alaska, Canada and Scandinavia have a smaller warm weather window – making the summer months absolutely gorgeous and the best time to visit. Want to live in a world where the day never ends? Travel up to small towns like Barrow in Alaska, where you can experience their 82-day stretch of sun until it finally sets again on August 2.

BEACH BUM IT

If your style is less roughing it and more lapping up luxury, find a posh resort and grab the next ticket to Hawaii, The Caribbean, Seychelles, Fiji, Costa Rica, Thailand – the list goes on. Destinations like Maldives and Turks and Caicos are great for scuba diving and exploring the underwater world. Want to stay close to the mainland? Great islands line both coasts, each with their own unique personality – from the wild horses of Georgia’s Cumberland Island to festive Avalon on California’s Catalina Island.

TACKLE THE TRAIL

It’s high season for the great outdoors, and there are a million places to venture: coasts, mountain ranges and everywhere in between. From the Great Smoky Mountains to Canyonlands, caves to great plains and rocky ocean cliffs, there’s a vast, beautiful land waiting for you to explore. Recreation.gov and ReserveAmerica have tons of ideas that will inspire you.

RELAX WITH FAMILY

Got kids? Amusement parks are always booming in the summer and are guaranteed to keep you and the little ones entertained. Pack the car, take a road trip and make the journey your destination. Even those who have to stay in their hometown can turn every weekend into their own staycation: day tripping to local aquariums, water parks and more.

LET’S GET PATRIOTIC

P1020375
Do you have your reds, whites and blues ready for the big celebrations this weekend?  From bikinis to tees and shorts to hats and yes even footwear, this is the best time to show off your pride with stars and stripes in the most creative ways possible.  Some have the skills to pull off this once-a-year look perfectly, but even the tackiest combinations of these All-American colors get a pass on the Fourth of July.  It’s a day when we’re understandably focused on picnics, barbecues, and all sorts of gatherings with family and friends where we enjoy good food, better drinks and…of course…fireworks!

What kind of red, white and blue look will you be rocking on Saturday…or any other day this long weekend? Let us know in the comments and if you have a cool patriotic outfit that features red, white and/or blue Skechers, we want to see it!  Don’t forget to tag @skechers on Instagram or post to our facebook page!

GET PACKING

Break out the bag: it’s summer, and we’ve got places to go! Whether you’re weekending for a three-day holiday celebration or taking that trip of a lifetime, here’s a list to help get you inspired – from the obvious to the easily overlooked.

The basics. Wallet, keys, passport, itinerary, cell phone, charger. Miss these and you won’t get very far out of town. Going abroad? Call your credit cards and give them a heads-up, so there are no surprises when they lock up your ATM card for suspicious foreign activities. See if your cell phone company lets you make calls outside of the US; if not, an unlocked phone can be used with local SIM cards to dodge the sticker shock that most companies charge. Also check the country’s voltage in case an adapter is needed.

It’s in the bag. The right or wrong ones can make or break your trip. Luggage for the big stuff. Bathroom kits that can unzip with a million compartments (bonus for the hook that hangs in the shower stall). A tote or backpack for your day treks. Overstuffed your suitcase? An adjustable strap can keep your bag together when your zipper doesn’t. Plus an extra bag: fold it up, stuff it in and you’ll have options. For laundry, gifts and those souvenirs you’ll never use.

A real camera. As great as your phone is, sometimes an SRL captures it even better. A must-have for serious snappers who want to get right up to that grizzly without actually being there. Plus a GoPro for action enthusiasts.

The Skechers. We’ve got this part covered. Sandals for the beaches of Phuket, boots for tramping the Milford Track, cushioned memory foam casuals for walking the cobblestones in Paris. Wherever you trek, we’ve got your style.

Layer up. Plan to weather the unexpected with light shirts, insulating layers, warm tops, windbreakers and jackets. Your favorite swimsuit (and a towel if you need it). Packing light? Convertible pants unzip into shorts in a snap. Dressing up? Take something wrinkle-resistant and roll them to keep them looking like new.

Lara packing

Beautify. Look great in your Instagram pics (and make your friends at home jealous) with a beauty kit that will keep you clean, moisturized and ready to rock. Dodge the sun with Peter Thomas Roth sunscreen, and grab extra contacts, glasses and solution if you need them.

The meds. Take it from someone who went rogue at a Peruvian farmacia and lived to regret it: bring meds you’re familiar with and don’t experiment when you get sick. Both prescription and non, in case the unexpected happens.

Be well read. DK Eyewitness Travel books (and basic foreign phrases) for the love-to-know-it-alls. Fiction fantasies for great escapists. Tabloids for the shamelessly curious. Get the tomes in your local shop or online where the options are way greater than the airport bookstore.

Snooze it. Do some time out on the plane with a little R&R: a pillow, ear plugs, eye mask and cush pair of socks can do wonders. Make your own personalized kit and show first class what they’re missing.

Accessorize. Give your trip some style and sizzle with a wide-brimmed sun hat. Sunglasses. A scarf that can be used to compartmentalize your items when you’re not wearing it on the gondola.

Want a vacation bonus? Join our #ShoecationSweeps! Just post a pic of you on your trip in your favorite Skechers on Instagram, and you could win a travel prize pack with a new pair of Skechers every Monday for 10 weeks starting July 6. Enter now through September 4! Get the details here.
