SKECHERS started the SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk three years ago to raise funds for The Friendship Circle, a non-profit organization devoted to improving the lives of children with special needs. In our South Bay community, there are hundreds of children who are living with Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and Autism as well as many other developmental disabilities and physical limitations. The focus of the walk expanded in our first year as so many schools faced serious budget cuts, and continue to face economic hardships that are impacting our kids’ educations.
We are committed to supporting children with special needs and education. We believe that it is our obligation to provide assistance to wonderful organizations like The Friendship Circle, which touches the hearts of so many – as well as help our schools during these tough times.
We have already raised more than $500,000 – thanks to many across our community, the efforts of our generous sponsors including presenting sponsor KIDS FOOT LOCKER, and the support of local and national businesses. This is an amazing start, but when you think about the approximately 57,000 kids in our schools, and all our many children with special needs, it isn’t enough. We can do so much more if we come together! Fitness expert Denise Austin, the iconic Tommy Lasorda and the lovely Brooke Burke will all be helping us kick off the walk. And now we are calling upon you, and asking you to call upon your family and friends so we can make miracles happen for thousands of deserving children.
Please join us at the Manhattan Beach Pier on Sunday, October 30 for a terrific time and let’s make even bigger strides in helping our children. If you can’t attend this year’s event, but want to be there in spirit, you can still go the extra mile for our kids by becoming a Virtual Walker: just register online as an Individual, and select ‘Virtual’ from the options listed. Visit the official SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk site for more information on how to get involved, or become a fan of the SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk Facebook page for the latest news and updates for this incredible event. See you there!
Have a question about your SKECHERS footwear, but not sure who to ask? See if it’s answered below by SKECHERS’ own Tim the Shoe Guy in this month’s FAQ!
When are Bella Ballerina shoes coming back into stock?
Tim the Shoe Guy: A full selection of Bella Ballerina shoes are expected to be back in stock around mid-October to early November (in preschool and grade school sizes only).
My shoe is squeaking. What can I do about it?
TSG: Try putting some talcum or baby powder into the interior of the shoe, and make sure you get powder down into the cracks. Tip out any surplus powder before wearing. That should quiet the squeak.
When are the SKECHERS GOrun shoes coming in? What are they all about?
TSG: You may have noticed the sleek new SKECHERS GOrun shoes – and you can learn all about them here. Right now, SKECHERS GOrun is available in select SKECHERS retail stores and is expected to be on SKECHERS.com by mid-November.
What are some of your favorite boots for this season?
TSG: That’s easy. The versatile women’s lace-up ankle boots that SKECHERS has this season, like the desert-boot-on-a-wedge Dandy-Chuck It, and the outdoor-inspired Lunacy-Sequoia. They’re smart, stylish and comfortable, and go well with skirts, tights or jeans. For guys, I suggest the Denton-Forest and Denton-Westlee boots. Not only are they military-inspired, but smartly stylish, too.
What’s coming up from SKECHERS for the holiday season?
TSG: The holidays are always an exciting time for SKECHERS shoppers – in addition to great new shoes, we have lots of special offers coming up. If you haven’t already done so, sign up for a SKECHERS Elite™ membership to receive notifications about exclusive SKECHERS shopping events.
Rephel Martin, the Assistant Coach for Men’s and Women’s Track and Field at Savannah State University, shares his Saver Meal Plan Strategy with SKECHERS
Having problems setting up a meal plan and staying within a budget? Try my Saver Meal Plan Strategy. Eating clean doesn’t have to be boring and high priced to be healthy. All you’ll need is few simple essentials, click here to learn more:
- One box of each: storage, sandwich, and snack Ziploc bags.
- A small food scale.
The goal is to stay within a $30.00 budget for the week, getting in three real meals and two snacks for the day. I know it sounds impossible, but it is very doable.
First, you will have to choose a lean protein, a starch/simple carb, and a good fat source to have with your real meals. Also, choose a good snack option between meals.
The second thing to remember is that lean protein sources go into the snack bags; carb sources go into the sandwich bags; and the day’s meals go into the storage bags.
I usually do my week’s shopping on Sunday, make my meals for the week, and in the morning all I have to do is grab a storage bag and go. This simple method eliminates the need for me to eat fast food, saves me money, and gives me the needed nutrition to keep training.
Protein measurements for each bag should be 4-5 oz., and carbs should be 6-8 oz. Peanut butter, almond butter, pumpkin seeds, and most nuts are great sources of good fat. You should rotate between chicken, salmon, and tilapia as to not get bored. Make your meals fun and be creative.
